🧵There's a lot of debate about data centers right now. We need more data centers, but I think there is compromise to be had.

New Yorkers with 16 or more speeding violations will now have to install devices in their cars to limit their driving speeds. The device will use GPS tracking to restrict how fast the car can drive to the posted speed limit. The device will be wired into the vehicle's onboard computer. If drivers refuse to install the device, their registrations will be revoked after 45 days.

@LieOnMyHill @CollinRugg Nah, that's discretionary. In 2020, there were only 21 new court commitments sentenced as persistent felony offenders out of 3,945 total (~0.5%). There are plenty of examples of repeat felons who go on to commit violent criminal acts when they should have been incarcerated.

@AltWealthBob @CollinRugg You never heard of NY’s 3 strikes law? After the third felony you basically can get up to life, but for sure a lengthy sentence. And if you have 3 violent felonies, you get mandatory life sentence

@AltWealthBob @CollinRugg Assault and Rape 16 times? No ankle monitor, no curfew, no drugs to reduce libido. Went 5 miles over the speed limit? Speed limiter.

@AltWealthBob @CollinRugg What about ILLEGAL immigrants with 16 or more felonies? They seem to be getting a pass on pretty much ANYTHING these days. ESPECIALLY when it comes to criminal issues. They seem to be taking ADVANTAGE of the revolving door of the New York judicial system.

@shane_grand1 @AltWealthBob @WickGoneWILD @CollinRugg The claim was “your freedom becomes limited with one felony”. The counterclaim was “for 5 mins”. This story does nothing to refute the claim. Whether its your freedom, voting rights in many cases, gun ownership, certain employment opportunities, certain gov benefits, etc etc

@BrokeDad360 I'm willing to give up irresponsible spending, waste, fraud, and abuse - you didn't mention that part.

Property taxes pay for the things people expect to work every day: schools, police, firefighters, roads, snow plows, parks, libraries, water systems, sewers, and emergency services. If you don’t want to pay property taxes, which of those are you willing to give up?

@AltWealthBob @CollinRugg You are speaking on two different things, i understand your frustration but you should know they do lose freedom, you just want them to lose their freedom completely

@AltWealthBob @CollinRugg Amen to this. Maybe a year back I saw that there are 300-ish people who do a shocking amount of the lesser crimes. Free up some beds and make a million lives better.

@LondonRiverSFW You're assuming the tax revenue is currently fair, reasonable, and wisely spent. It's only a shift of the tax burden if the local governments don't cut waste, fraud, and abuse. This is the real issue that big govt advocates don't want to address.

A few pressing questions for Florida’s so-called conservatives and DeSantis supporters who tout libertarian ideals. If property tax really is just “rent” paid to the government for something you already own, why does that logic only hold for owner-occupied homes and not for commercial or investment properties? If businesses and commercial properties are burdened with a heavier share of taxes than homeowners, aren’t we unintentionally penalizing productivity? Why should rentals and businesses foot a disproportionate share of local government costs? Why should renters, through passed-on costs, pay more in taxes than homeowners? Is this actually a reduction in the tax burden, or simply a redistribution of that burden from some taxpayers to others? If local governments spend money raised from local taxpayers, voters know who to reward or blame. If that revenue increasingly comes from the state instead, who exactly is accountable when things go wrong? If local government is supposed to be accountable to local voters, why should voters hundreds of miles away have the power to dictate how a city or county raises revenue for local services? And why should affluent, commercially vibrant cities have their local revenue redistributed to less productive areas? Isn’t it revealing that many of the cities and counties that would benefit most from DeSantis’s property tax plan are also the ones that traditionally vote Republican? Doesn’t that sound like a system of favoritism based on political allegiance rather than fairness?

@WishBagHolder22 @CollinRugg Calling out enforcement inconsistencies is hardly whataboutism. Also, ad hominem is the lowest form of debate - congratulations!
