@GrantJohan Jag håller nog inte med om att _vi_ har men vår politikerklass har. Vår härskarklass ägnar för mycket tid åt att försöka lösa sina egna problem eller följa sina egna agendor istf att försöka lösa samhällsproblemen. Miljöprövningarna är ett bra exempel.

Sverige behöver ett mer operativt förhållningssätt generellt. Vi har en övertro på tyckare som är för långt ifrån verkligheten. Vi behöver göra upp med våra ideal och återupprätta det enkla, pragmatiska kompromisser och insikten att man måste vara rik för att kunna vara generös.

@laeelxa Min mamma höll på att bli itvingad hjärtmedicin för att personalen inte kunde läsa svenska. Hon fick också örondroppar i ögonen, återigen för att usk:an inte kunde läsa svenska.

Soviet Russia is closer than it appears. The reason I have always loved science and engineering is that you eventually encounter reality. If you are any good, you will eventually find out that you are wrong. Lies only get you so far. Sure, OpenAI or Meta could lie about how good their AIs are… but only to a point. Quebec, where I live, is eerily similar to the tales told about Soviet Russia. When I tell colleagues about it, they often do not understand what I mean by “Soviet Russia.” They think I am saying that people are being sent to gulags in Quebec. They are not. Not physical gulags, at least. There were different phases to the Soviet Union. Early on, it was a constant bloodbath. But over time, this proved unnecessary. All you need to mimic Soviet Russia is a sufficiently powerful bureaucracy. But a specific type of bureaucracy: one that is willing to lie, misrepresent facts, shamelessly and on a large scale. Contrary to what people assume, the workforce of the Soviet Union wasn’t incompetent. They couldn’t keep up with the USA, but their economy was growing and their productivity was steadily improving. In what they cared about, they did relatively well. They had an impressive number of tanks and nuclear missiles. Their spy operations were top-notch. Whether those tanks would work or fall apart in an actual battle is harder to say. When everything is covered with lies, you just can’t know. See, Soviet Russia liked science and engineering but suffered from an addiction to lies. If it led to mass starvation due to poor agricultural choices, so be it. But it still worked, somehow. So why did it fall? One significant factor is the bureaucratic gulags: people lied, were lied to, and everyone knew that everyone else was lying. You had a deep collapse of credibility. Trust is a critical fuel for innovation. Too many lies, and you won’t get anywhere. The feedback loop of trial and error breaks and cannot be replaced. That’s why you see so many organizations incapable of innovation: once nobody believes anything, you can’t move forward very fast. Do not live by lies, it will catch up with you.

Om det är något jag är 100% övertygad om helt utan bevis, så är det att människor mår bättre i vackra miljöer. Tror människor i miljonprogrammen delvis mår sämre för att allt är så grått och trist, jämfört med t.ex Stockholms innerstad. Varför är det så svårt att bygga vackert?

Microsoft is apparently finally admitting that what many users have wanted all along is a faster, quieter, more dependable operating system. Not more Copilot. In a new Windows Insider post, Microsoft’s Pavan Davuluri laid out a broad quality push for Windows 11 centered on performance, reliability, and what the company calls “craft.” More likely, it's what Steve Jobs called "taste", if you remember THAT interview... And honestly, a lot of it reads like Microsoft finally sat down, opened Feedback Hub, and decided to take the complaints seriously. The headline changes are exactly the kind of practical fixes power users have been asking for: taskbar repositioning to the top or sides of the screen, fewer forced update interruptions, more control over when updates install, faster File Explorer, lower baseline memory usage, better search responsiveness, fewer notifications, and more reliable drivers and wake behavior. Microsoft also says it is reducing “unnecessary Copilot entry points,” starting with apps like Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad. The Windows Update story is interesting.... Microsoft says it wants updates to be less disruptive, with a move toward a single monthly reboot, the ability to restart or shut down without being forced to install u-pdates, and the option to pause updates for as long as needed. That is a major philosophical shift from the old “we know what’s best, enjoy your reboot” era, even if the real test will be how consistently Microsoft follows through in shipping builds. Performance also seems to be getting real attention instead of marketing lip service. Microsoft says Windows 11 will reduce its own resource usage, improve memory efficiency, make File Explorer quicker and more dependable, and lower latency by moving more core experiences to WinUI 3. The company specifically calls out Start menu responsiveness, search consistency, faster file operations, and a smoother overall feel under load. That is the sort of engineering work users notice every single day, even if it doesn’t make for a shiny keynote demo. My personal benchmark is to be able to type 'Download" into the Start menu and have it find my Downloads folder. Not a Bing search for a Copilot download. The Copilot pullback is equally interesting because it suggests Microsoft has realized there is a difference between useful AI and AI sprayed across every available surface. The company is not abandoning Copilot, but it is dialing back what it describes as unnecessary integration points. That sounds a lot less like “AI everywhere” and a lot more like “maybe Notepad didn’t need to become a sentient billboard.” The most encouraging part of all this is the tone. Microsoft is not pitching this as a revolution. It is pitching it as a cleanup, stabilization, and giving users more control. And that may be exactly what Windows 11 needs. After years of feeling like the operating system was being used to push services, experiments, and mandatory behavior, this looks like a return to a simpler idea: Windows should serve the user, not manage them. I, for one, still advocate for Windows Pro having NO advertisements, bloatware, or needless telemetry. Make people pay, then quit asking for more. But I've been barking up THAT tree for years. Now the obvious catch: these are commitments and previews, not a completed turnaround. Microsoft has promised a lot here, but Windows users have long memories. This is probably still the best Windows news in a while, because it focuses on the fundamentals: Faster. More reliable. Less noisy. More customizable. Less pushy.

Ja, det @AgnesWold säger stämmer. Samma gäller barnskötare. Idén om att omsorgsarbete = ”naturligt kvinnogöra” och därför är något man inte ska behöva betala för sitter djupt i vår kultur, trots att Sverige är väldigt jämställt.

@gynaeceum @hanifbali har ju argumenterat att det är just bostadssituationen som leder till färre barn. Hans förslag om ökat villabyggande fungerar nog men är svårare att genomföra än att ändra kulturella normer.

Tror verkligen Märta är inne på något här. För många i fertil ålder i medelstora och stora städer är det inte möjligt att ha råd med fyra sovrum, men idag verkar det typ ses som barnmisshandel om barn delar rum.

@ValkStrategy @SR_Planespotter There has to be a realistic limit on the number of tracks given that the AC only has so much memory available. It's not like it's running in cloud and can just acquire more resources as it goes along.

@SR_Planespotter The in-service DAS is being replaced under Block 4. (And if it picked up everything inside 800 miles over Iran the processor might have a nervous breakdown.)

F-35s DAS can detect all sorts of missile launches, from even 800 miles away, I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't have gotten a warning and made no defensive maneuvers?
