Does anyone know if the catcher from Venezuela gets to keep the ball from the WBC because he caught the final strike?

I feel like Kent Johnson will follow a similar path to Dylan Strome. Go somewhere else in the Summer, under the radar he'll start to evolve into a star until all of a sudden he is one.

@icehockeystick And him being born in Toronto and growing up there, I am sure he has visited the HHOF and should understand the big picture.

I still think it’s incredible Jack Hughes thought the puck should belong to him. Especially surprising considering how hockey culture is all about “team first.” (Not to mention, common sense and also historically that’s what happens)

@TheHockeyNews That puck should be nowhere near Toronto, it should be in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, or the Smithsonian Museum of American History

@crosbysangels Imagine being so stupid that you call the guy who scored the game winning goal for the U.S. a “loser” 😂

@spittinchiclets Is he actually asking why the HALL OF FAME would want the puck for the GOLD MEDAL WINNING OVERTIME GOAL FOR TEAM USA?

@spittinchiclets Omg, what’s with all the whining? Good lord. Did Crosby whine this much when the HOF took his gold medal-winning puck? 🙄🤦‍♀️

@stanbaugh @spittinchiclets The team didn’t leave it, the hall had a ref swoop in right after the goal was scored. The Americans went to find it after they finished celebrating.

@spittinchiclets It shouldn’t even be a question, of course he should. At a bare minimum it should be in the U.S. hockey hall of fame

@Justfilmi @CakeMcJabe Except it’s not being displayed for his country’s people, it’s being displayed in the country that lost, for their people to view. It should be in the U.S. hockey hall of fame

@CakeMcJabe Like that’s my thing. Olympics are played for their countries so if my country won and the winning puck is displayed for my country ppl and the world to see, isn’t that the whole point?

The Jack Hughes stuff is truly a masterclass on the "me first" entitlement of a lot of Americans. How dare a museum for hockey history display an artifact of an important moment in hockey history. 😭😭😭😭

@krittterrr @jtbourne Oh really? Then where are the pucks from the last 3 Olympics? Because they aren’t in the Hockey Hall of Fame that’s for sure

@jtbourne there’s zero precedent for it though, as the hhof notes it’s this way no matter who “scored” it. it’s not the nhl/ahl where it’s at the team/league’s discretion.

This is an interesting debate. Clearly, the 40-or-whatever guys in a given game - basketball, hockey, or otherwise - are not co-owners of the playing object of the game they're in. Giving it to guys is a common courtesy though. Still, nice for the world to have access to it.
Greg Wyshynski@wyshynski

FYI: If you're curious about why the Hockey Hall of Fame can claim ownership of Jack Hughes's "golden goal" puck, there's a ton of info in here about how that works. espn.com/nhl/story/_/id…

@sassygenx @TheBrattPack63 The biggest issue is if Macklin Celebrini scored that goal, and asked for the puck he would’ve gotten it no problem. It’s only because a ton of Canadians are incredibly salty that they lost that there’s any issue here

Okay, don't get crazy, Dylan. The Smithsonian isn't where it needs to be. I could see the US Hockey Hall of Fame; however, IMO, if I were a hockey player (which I can barely stick-handle), I would be thrilled if something related to me was in the official Hall of Fame. It seems petty when he says it's bullshit. I think that is why it seems odd that he is upset. Again, this is just my opinion.

@sassygenx @TheBrattPack63 Why wouldn’t it be in the Smithsonian Museum of American History? Stuff from 1960 and 1980 is there, and again, it is bullshit. It’s tradition in every level that players get the pucks from big goals they score. The IIHF should be no different.

@BR_OpenIce @wyshynski “Lucky enough to play”??? Ummm no…. Jack is skilled enough to play. You guys are lucky you have players as skilled as him, otherwise there would be no hall. Give the kid his damn puck

"We try to take the emotion out of it. We're here to preserve a game that Jack's lucky enough to play or we're lucky enough to work in" The Hall has responded to Jack's thoughts about the "Golden Goal" puck 👀 (via @wyshynski)
