@blueprintsmb22 What episode? Acquiring Minds was the first podcast I went on to talk about the septic industry.
English

@jjacobs22 Future digital founders will have no moat. The cost of software development will drop to near zero. SaaS companies will collapse as AI will be able to provide customized solutions for each user.
English

There’s a lot of talk about how AI will fundamentally transform so many occupations. I have heard it about lawyers, accountants, doctors, software engineers, show runners, project managers, etc etc etc
Few are saying these occupations will be displaced. Only that the roles will evolve, with more strategic chops/creativity needed and less minutia weighing them down.
Here’s a role I haven’t heard anyone talking about: founder! How will AI transform the role of startup founder?
Here are a few ideas:
- it will enable founders to be more self sufficient in the earliest days, scrappier, and able to get further without access to help and/or capital
- it will enable founders to leave a trail of automation in their wake, as they get their hands dirty doing repetitive tasks and one by one leave them to the machines to do on their behalf
- it will incentivize founders to get ruthless about speed and efficiency, as the same leverage that AI is bringing to them it will bring to their current/future competitors as well
- it will necessitate a mindset shift to AI-first company building, meaning AI should be incorporated into the workflows of every position and every process (that it can be) from the earliest days.
Would love to hear how other people are thinking about this.

@paulswaney3 Chester has its issues but there are similar studies for all W2E combustion facilities in the US. I believe you can do it safely but it’s not economically viable.
From experience I know that landfilling plastics is cheaper, safer, and more environmental friendly than W2E.
English

@paulswaney3 You sure about that?
In Philadelphia, the neighborhoods adjacent to the W2E facility with amine scrubbers have asthma rates 4x the general population.
English

@paulswaney3 Those results were in controlled studies where optimal conditions for bacterial degradation. They don't represent real world scenarios.
Combustion (W2E) of plastics also releases other dangerous compounds dioxins, furans, PBCs and PAHs, etc....
English

@paulswaney3 Plastics can remain in landfills for up to 1,000 years before degrading.
If the landfill has gas capture it's still better than W2E w/scrubber from a GHG perspective.
Don't get me started on composting...
English

@paulswaney3 Plastics-> waste to energy = fossil CO2 emissions
Plastics -> landfill = carbon sequestration.

@IAmClintMurphy @stevemagness You can’t just walk into any polling place in the country to vote. You can only vote at the designated polling place within the district you are registered in. So, your hypothetical basis for this post wouldn’t be possible in the US. Voter ID requirement or not.
English

@IAmClintMurphy @stevemagness You keep saying it’s a loophole. It’s not. You have to register to vote in a specific state and congressional district.
In the act of registering to vote you have to show proof of citizenship and residency within that district.
English

@tajer_amir @Molson_Hart Not banned in CA. Only state with a land application ban is ME. CA is banning it from landfills along with other organics, which will lead to increased land application in CA.
English

@Molson_Hart So this is banned in CA but years ago someone called us to ask us if our organic fertilizer is made from sewage and I was shocked and told him of course not there is no such thing then I learned actually in other states (don’t know how many still allow it now) they use sewage
English

Please break this down for us @tajer_amir 🙏

Toxic sewage sludge full of PFAS aka forever chemicals is used to fertilize ~ 70 million acres of US farmland or 1/5 of all agricultural land. Research shows PFAS enter the food system through contaminated crops and livestock. The EPA now says there's no safe amount of PFAS for human consumption yet continues to promote the use of PFAS laden biosolids on farmland. The deck is completely stacked against a healthy food system.

@duncancampbell @NYCMayor This short video goes into the science of HTC and the various applications of hydrochar. youtube.com/watch?v=p6CF-u…

YouTube
English

@duncancampbell @NYCMayor Most WWTP are spaced constrained. Implementing Hydrothermal Carbonization would yield 30% more energy than biogas from sewage. The solid hydrochar product can be shipped to the data center for on-site energy generation via existing infrastructure.
English

NYC's waste water treatment plants currently flare about 60% of the biogas they produce!
@NYCMayor lets build edge data centers at our WWTPs powered by biogas + engines/turbines and lease them to providers who want compute and storage in proximity to NYC.
English

@binslashgo @WilsonCompanies ....and you turn the recovered resources into products to sell.
English

@HMcJeon @anupama_khan Depending on the processed used it could be either CH4 or CO2. Either way, there is a constant flow of renewable biomass. This video does a good job of explaining hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) that captures carbon from the sewage sludge. youtube.com/watch?v=p6CF-u…

YouTube
English

@anupama_khan sorry, i've been living under a rock... wastewater CDR? is that C for CH4 or C for CO2?
English

@JesseJenkins @drvolts @WillToor Hydrothermal Carbonization of sewage sludge to meet the energy demands of municipal wastewater treatment plants. youtube.com/watch?v=p6CF-u…

YouTube
English

@drvolts @WillToor Just go ahead and assume we discussed it in the pod. It's 90 mins for a reason! Very thorough. The first person who listens to the whole thing and replies here with a viable solution we DID NOT discuss, you win a prize. Everyone else: go listen to the pod before dropping replies!
English

Today on Volts: wind & solar power are variable! They come & go w/ the weather. How can we build a reliable, always-on electricity system around variable resources? I discuss the many answers to that question with energy modeler @JesseJenkins.

@SahilBloom I spent too many hours of my childhood worrying about the Bermuda Triangle.

@danielchisca @WilsonCompanies Not in any state that I’m aware of.
English

@WilsonCompanies Does pumping septic tanks require a plumbing license?
