An update: I spoke to @BrunswickGroup who handle media enquiries for ABF. The lady I spoke to hadn't heard of Mr George Weston, and nor had she tried Gentleman's Relish. On the plus side she did say it sounds like the sort of thing she might enjoy. She also said not many people work on Fridays and that they may still be catching up with a backlog of Easter emails...Anyway, she was very nice and pledged to follow the matter up with ABF and ensure the letter gets to the right people. More updates when I get them. We'll keep fighting! If you come across one of those enigmatic white pots on your supermarket shelf, grab it before it's too late. #SavePatumPeperium

Here is the letter I have written this evening to George Weston, CEO of Associated British Foods, the parent company that owns Gentleman’s Relish. Can only hope!🤞🏽

The peak narrative doesn't work that well with fptp - each poll lead and each council / by election victory solidifies the fact that Reform are the leading rightwing party in voters' minds. Especially when the Greens beat Reform to second (e.g. Cliftonville). The right should come together.

Why am I extremely excited about Britain’s future on so many different fronts? Because history has shown again and again that this island nation will rise, kicking and screaming, to the challenge. The night is always darkest just before the dawn.

@AndrewOrlowski What term would you use for the model that is furthest ahead in the AGI race? Or does my question itself carry the same ignorance!

Fun fact: “Frontier Model” is a buzzword last heard in 2023 and was advanced by the EA cult. It’s a propaganda phrase. They borrowed it from Asimov. I think Danny is a good man and sincere, but to find a UK politician echoing posthumanist jargon in 2026 is jarring, to say the least.

@93vintagejones Yeah, I'm on the fence but the 'those who oppose it are conspiracists' line is so off-putting, even more than the populism line. Those are my uncle, hockey mate and twitter mutuals he's talking about!

Any rightist saying there's merit to this proposal but they should focus on how much better it'll make public services... please LISTEN to how they are talking about it. They think being able to use an ID scheme to crack down on populism is the best thing to recommend it.

Very fair. A note of thanks - my brother's wife was worried about him getting upset with engaging in online discourse and about the unrelenting negative stream. The Critic isn't sunny uplands but it is thoughtful and bounded. So I made a deal with him that I'd get him a subscription and he'd slow the doomscrolling. Reader, it worked! Thank you.

The British Government is a complicated beast. Dozens of departments, hundreds of public bodies, more corporations than one can count... Such is its complexity that there isn't an org chart for it. Well, there wasn't... Introducing ⚙️Machinery of Government⚙️

We are extremely grateful for your support in all its forms, Ben, and your frank assessment of the situation. As you write, our party is far from the finished article. But I share your belief that the motivation is there to do the hard work, and that it is better to build something fresh and honest from scratch. I greatly respect people like you who want to get involved with making that happen rather than carping from the sidelines. Onwards!

@JAHeale @Fox_Claire Is it a coup? Given he funds so many organisations that are either implicitly or explicitly in support of Reform, it seems quite a natural step?

@AndrewGold_ok I think it should have been framed as much as being about Britain not having to give a visa to a non-Brit who repeatedly glorified the man so many of our greatest generation died to defeat.

2 was more about Britain generally not having to host pro Hitler foreigners in Britain when we lost so many fighting him, though British Jews have double the reason. Re 3, yes, I think that if he was a foreign white country singer who had repeatedly said the equivalent things about black people then, no I don't think he would be headlining a British music festival within the year (rightly). Is your sense really the opposite?

@DanieldeRhondda @defossardf and as for no.2, well, the Jewish community here already lives under quasi-permanent siege, so I think the damage is done there already tbqh (and not because of Kanye or anything he's said)

a. Headliner of a major festival gives a Nazi salute (which he has already done), sings HH (already done), etc. b. Symbolic damage that we don't respect those who died fighting in WWII enough to stop someone who has publicly glorified Hitler, who is not British and we have no duty to, coming to Britain to make lots of money as a cultural icon. c. Sense that if it wasn't grotesque antisemitism in question, he wouldn't have been invited in first place, and the question would not have arisen.

@defossardf Do you have any distinction between foreign nationals applying for a visa vs British citizens here? I am strong pro-free speech for British citizens in our society, but don't think that means we have to benevolently welcome non-Brits who glorify Hitler or jihad.

My answer would be that we have no duty, including under Freedom of Speech for British citizens, to allow in foreign nationals who glorify violent jihad or Hitler. I agree with you on the double standard, but would bank this win and double down on banning those who glorify violent jihad... I slightly disagree with you on the motivation too. We can't tell, but I can imagine this harming Labour more than helping it, even if the right thing to do. The number of Wireless attendees alone is not far shy of the number of British jews.

@DanieldeRhondda Britain defeated Hitler at enormous cost, absolutely. But if we're suddenly strict on glorifying tyrants, why the open door for those who glorify violent jihad? Kanye is a chaotic American musician. The others export real violence. The selective memory is political theatre.

A disgraceful decision, especially given their repeated refusal to use this power against those who pose a genuine threat to the country and those who call the place home. If Kanye West had been an IRGC member or outlaw Salafi-Jihadist ideologue, he would have been allowed in…

@JewDahMac @JoosyJew Exactly. I have no duty to want a foreign rapper here who has recently celebrated my country's most evil and destructive enemy. British Jews have double the reason to tell him to bugger off, but we all should.
