Dumbass commentary -- Whose military do you suppose is more "depleted" -- US or Russia? Can China "take" Taiwan without making it into Gaza? China wants Taiwan intact -- it wants Taiwan's technology sector for itself. Taiwan is small and EXTRAORDINARILY well-defended. It's Ukraine on steroids and with a much higher level of technical sophistication.

Anyone who claims the A10 needs to be retired obviously hasn't been in a ground firefight and needed them. There are few things more depressing than a gun run from any other platform. Don't @ me about obsolescence. Everything is "obsolete" if conditions aren't set.

@IanRunkle @ogafroman Did you see how they entered, on top of everything else? Blowing past corners, no covering each other, ballistic shield is like the 4th guy in. An amateur airsoft team of teenagers would be more professional. This was just LARPing for them, they knew there was no danger.

This really kind of sums up the problem. The officer here is incensed that people called him up with threatening crank calls. He doesn't feel safe. He doesn't stop to consider that he kicked down someone's door with guns drawn. Maybe @ogafroman deserves to feel safe too.

@infantrydort The F-35 is a wonderful aircraft. It can’t do ground support the way an A-10 can. Why must this be an either/or situation? Especially when the A-10 is so inexpensive. An F-35 isn’t coming back after sustaining damage like this.

@infantrydort Eh, heavy cavalry is still effective against, say, riots. That doesn't make it not-obsolete. Battleships are absolutely generally obsolete. For people looking for a clear explanation on the idea, I can recommend the Perun presentations on whether the helicopter/tank is obsolete.

A battleship is "obsolete" against a plane. A tank is "obsolete" against an EFP. A bayonet is "obsolete" against a loaded gun. A bomber is "obsolete" against a fighter. A fighter is "obsolete" against a SAM. A submarine is "obsolete" against a depth charge. Stop.
