This will churn more properties onto the market faster. Since the bill completely fails to implement price protections, homes will hit the market at today's artificially inflated rates. The result is maximum commission for the realtor and maximum debt for the buyer.

Great to meet with the Nebraska Realtors Association this week. We discussed efforts to make housing affordable for Nebraskans. This includes the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which cuts red tape and regulation to make housing development more affordable. The best way to lower the cost of housing is to build more housing!

It's more help for builders and bankers than relief for first-time homebuyers. Housing bills keep rising today under GOP control, with inflation at 4.2% in May. Looking backward doesn't help families now. The ROAD Act creates broad build-to-rent loopholes for corporate investors, cuts rules for banks without guaranteeing lower prices for buyers, and fails to seriously tackle corporate bidding wars or local zoning scarcity.

Ten years ago, the average first-time homebuyer was 31. Today it's 40. Under President Biden, home prices increased by 28%. Costs climbed so high that even some households earning more than $200,000 now qualify for homebuying assistance. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act increases housing supply and reduces federal barriers to development. Lower costs mean more families can afford to build their lives here in Nebraska.

There is a fundamental problem with Nebraska’s leadership culture. They’re happy to spend down a $1.6 billion surplus on tax cuts, subsidies, prisons, and culture wars… and when the bill comes due, families, schools, healthcare, higher ed, etc are expected to absorb the cuts.
