Thanks for all your questions about Steve Allen. Steve’s contract with LBC is up shortly and following discussions with him, Steve is stepping down from LBC today. We'd like to thank him for his enormous contribution to commercial radio over the past 44 years.

@TVNaga01 I and many others change channels when snide Naga is on. Agree with Rob. What's worse if you turn the radio on she's there as well. Why on earth do BBC rate her? Well i know the answer......

Ah Rob Thank goodness there's someone else who is also 'snide & irritating' out there. Phew! Long may your own lack of pleasantness continue. X

Former minister Jake Berry on the return to work: “We have to end the civil service ‘woke-ing’ from home - sorry I mean working from home, but let’s be honest, it often is woke-ing.”

@GenMhayden @MalcolmNance No, he doesn't actually believe this. He's saying it because the people he thinks will vote him into office believe it. We are watching your democracy dying and it's not pretty.

Gare du Nord: "Why are you going to the UK?" 🇬🇧 Seems as if Brexit was the chance border force agents had been waiting for all their lives to become as welcoming as their American colleagues. 🥴

@LBC @NickFerrariLBC I cannot believe someone would compare a doctor to an MP doctors are trained professionals. They go through years of training. Where's most MPs these days are friends of friends or related to someone very few become MPs for other people's good.🤔☹

Conservative MP and Father of the House of Commons Sir Peter Bottomley has suggested the salary for MPs is 'grim', and that it should match the salary of GPs. @NickFerrariLBC asks: do you agree?

@markinthedesert @LBC @NickFerrariLBC I used to agree with you. I always thought they should be paid more to attract a higher standard candidate because I viewed their jobs as responsible. I've changed my mind now.

@LBC @NickFerrariLBC I'm going to get some insults I'm sure. But I've felt for years that an MP's salary is not representative of the job description and responsibilities. Sadly though so many don't reach the standards required and as a result are over paid.

@paullewismoney @fotosaad I'm the same. We have to pay for the council to pick up things which I don't mind but after latest rise I'm paying over £2k a year and the streets are filthy. People dump mattresses and furniture everywhere. Now another 5%?

There was no promise to freeze council tax at the last Election, though it was a policy of several previous governments. Think tank predicts it will have to rise significantly.

@ThomNolan @KamChan08 @AlexMays90 @JohnRoss43 Because it's never enough. I know of people, wealthy and with high paying jobs or businesses, who would take family to court to inherit property, money etc when they don't need it. Enough is never enough.

@KamChan08 @AlexMays90 @JohnRoss43 I don’t begrudge folk being rich but why on earth would someone with 10 billion feel the need to have 20 billion? It would take a billionaire 40 years just to spend 500,000 a week. Explain why someone would need that?

There are 171 billionaires in the UK, with a fortune of almost £600bn combined. There are 14 million people living in poverty. These billionaires could give every person living in poverty £30,000 EACH and STILL be billionaires. Now tell me again why we can’t tax the rich?

@mikebutcher @sohear I don't know. I suspect many young people are more adaptable than you give them credit for, especially if they work in tech/tech related. I've learned a ton from them.

@JRLOakley Did he actually, really say that? I've been driving for 35 years, consider myself experienced, driven in different countries, but the idea of driving an HGV terrifies me.

Dear Stanley Johnson, “How hard can it be to drive a HGV” he asks - well, you’re welcome to join me for a shift whenever you like. It’s usually around 12 hours but can be as long as 15. Make sure you bring plenty of food and drink unless you’re happy to pay a lot to buy some.

The Conservative Party chairman has told people to "get off their pelotons and back to their desks". Speaking at a Fringe event at the party conference, Oliver Dowden said civil servants needed to lead by example and get back to offices. #cpc2021

We’ve had a few farmers too on this thread! Fascinating. My dad made batteries for British Leyland. He couldn’t believe I turned down a place at the Middle Temple to become a barrister, opting for the BBC instead! They wondered why they’d flown 6000 miles from Jamaica!!

The first thing many EU citizens heard from friends, family & colleagues who voted Brexit to ‘reduce immigration’ was: “I didn’t mean *you*.” That worked out well. This clip mistakenly punts the idea that they all did ‘menial’ jobs but nails the sentiment.
