I thought couples therapy was to help individuals figure out what he/she needs to change in themselves - not to make lists of what the other person does to annoy you. Is the goal to make the marriage work or to justify divorce? The lists of what one does wrong, suggests the later.

My wife has scheduled a couples therapy session for Friday She said it's "non-negotiable" I said "everything is negotiable" I told her Friday is packed and asked if we could push it She looked at the ceiling Why does she keep doing that Then she handed me a list Printed Single spaced Two pages I said "what is this" She said "everything you've done in the last month that we need to discuss with the therapist" I stopped at line twenty-three Not because I was ashamed Because the formatting was inconsistent Some lines had periods Some didn't I made a note I said "can I bring my analyst" She said "only if I can bring mine" I don't know what that means But her tone suggested I shouldn't ask I brought the list to the office this morning Handed it to my analyst He got two lines in and said the formatting is off I have trained him well He said "I blocked two hours Friday boss man" The session is one He said "you'll need the second for the debrief" Then he asked if I wanted him to take my cargo shorts to the dry cleaners before Friday I said no I have seven identical pairs He said "I know. This criticism ignores a basic reality: In Jewish tradition, saving a life comes before everything. It is a practical obligation, not an abstract idea. For generations, Jewish communities built structured systems of support. Emergency response teams, volunteer medical services, charity networks and family assistance. These systems are not exclusive. They respond to anyone in need, regardless of background, religion or identity. Instead of criticizing it, more societies should learn from it and build the same.

Frodo leaving the Shire is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking endings in all of literature. He won. The Ring was destroyed. The Shire was saved. And he couldn't stay. Not because he didn't want to. But because the journey cost him more than anyone around him could see. He carried the weight of the world's evil on his body and soul, and even though the Ring was gone, the scars weren't. That's Tolkien writing the truest thing he ever wrote: some suffering in this life cannot be healed in this life. There are wounds - spiritual, physical, emotional - that only eternity can restore. Frodo’s departure isn’t a sad ending, it’s the hope of heaven for someone who gave everything and was broken by it. It's about the promise that what was broken will be made whole. Just not here. And not yet.
