They are free to build new technologies, build roads, innovate, fly to space. Nobody is stopping them. Yes, China and West is mining their materials. Mainly because they don't have own technologies to do it. They take those materials away, again, because Africans lack technologies to process those materials and add value. Africans are not civilization builders. They have some great minds, clever people. And those people often leave to Europe, USA, instead of building their own country. You can ask yourself why.

Honestly, good question. There’s a bunch of reasons. Not one of which should be some vague thing that makes us turn our brains off and stop looking for reasons. Like “because communism”. There are always real, concrete reasons for real things that happen, you know? This is the go to on the subject if you’re interested. Reposting because I think this is an important point. Capitalism enforces its specific land regime, making land a commodity. It does so using police with guns. That is profound state interfence in the economy.
