@JEChalmers Why not send a few thousand people to speed build a refinery? Take some radical emergency action? NAS let’s wait?

We're not immune from global instability but we’re confronting these challenges from a position of genuine relative economic strength - with faster growth, stronger jobs growth and lower debt than every major advanced economy.

@elonmusk All this app does is stop people doing anything, it serves no purpose, it s just desensitised people to the worst. There are no call to action, there are no solutions, just a bunch of bullshit opinions for people to scroll.

I'm going to make some obvious points. (1) Blowing up all the oil infrastructure in the Middle East is an insane idea, and may well result in a global economic crash and humanitarian crisis unrivaled in the lives of those now living. We're talking about the price of everything everywhere rising, from food to gas, at a moment when inflation was already high. All of that will be laid at the feet of the authors of this war. (2) The antebellum status quo of Feb 27, 2026 was just not that bad, but we're unlikely to return to it. Expect indefinite, long-term, ongoing disruptions to everything out of the Middle East. (3) Also assume tech financing crashes for the indefinite future. The genius plan to get the Gulf states caught in the crossfire has incinerated much of the funding for LPs, for datacenters, and for IPOs. Anyone in tech who supported this war may soon learn the meaning of "force majeure" as funding gets yanked. (4) Many capital allocators will instead be allocating much further down Maslow's hierarchy of needs, towards useful basic things like food and energy. (5) It's fortunate that all those progressives yelled about the "climate crisis." Yes, their reasoning about timelines was wrong, and much of the money was wasted in graft, but the result was right: we all need energy independence from the Middle East, pronto. It's also fortunate that Elon and China autistically took climate seriously. Now they're going to need to ship a billion solar panels, electric vehicles, batteries, nuclear power plants, and the like to get everyone off oil, immediately. (6) It's not just an oil and gas problem, of course. It's also a fertilizer problem, and a chemical precursor problem. Maybe some new sources will come online at the new prices, but it takes time to dial stuff up, particularly at this scale, so shortages are almost a certainty. That said, China has actually scaled up coal-to-chemicals[a,c] (C2C), and there's also something more sci-fi called Power-to-X[b] which turns arbitrary power + water + air into hydrocarbons. But all of that will need to get accelerated. I have a background in chemical engineering so may start funding things in this area. (7) Ultimately, this war is going to result in tremendous blame for anyone associated with it. It's a no-win scenario to blow up this much infrastructure for so many people. Simply not worth it for whatever objective they thought they were going to attain. But unless you're actually in a position to stop the madness, the pragmatic thing to do is: scramble to mitigate the fallout to yourself, your business, and your people. Imagine you had to choose your life at age 40: Option A: Single. No kids. $10M net worth. Travel anywhere. Total freedom. Quiet house. Quiet holidays. Option B: Married. 3 kids. $1M net worth. Drive a Toyota. Chaos every morning. Loud house. Full dinner table. Be honest, which life are you choosing?

Greed power and no soul. It’s only good or bad luck where you are born, none of us earned a special place. Every human being should have to do national service in a hospital for a year to understand we all bleed the same and every life is precious. Vacuous, fearful men destroy

Rep. Jason Crow on the president warning Americans could die: "How amazing of Donald Trump to say, you know, that often happens in war. And that's a cost he's willing to take. Great for him. It's not his kids. It's not his family. It's not his billionaire donors who are having to go off and do it."

An Australian teenager who died after eating beef sausages on a camping trip has officially been confirmed as the first person in Australia to die from a tick-induced meat allergy. Since 2020, cases of this allergy have increased by 40%. In 2016, World Economic Forum member and bioethicist Matthew Liao spoke about using genetic engineering or tick-based methods to induce a “meat allergy” in people as a way to reduce meat consumption for environmental reasons.

BREAKING NEWS: Rowan Atkinson, a legendary icon of comedy, television, and cinema, has left even the world’s richest and most powerful figures stunned—not just with his words, but with decisive action. At a glamorous red-carpet gala in Los Angeles on December 20, attended by film moguls, tech billionaires, and Hollywood’s most elite stars, Rowan Atkinson took the stage to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. But instead of offering a conventional acceptance speech, he chose a moment of truth—direct, fearless, and deeply human. He did not thank the Academy. He did not reminisce about Mr. Bean, Blackadder, or decades of global laughter. Instead, Atkinson looked straight into the audience of wealth and influence and declared: “We sit here surrounded by diamonds and artistic glory while the world outside is falling apart. If your voice can move millions and you choose not to use it for those who have no voice, then you are not creating change—you are creating noise.” The room fell into complete silence. Film executives and invited guests sat motionless, struck by the weight of his words. He continued, unwavering: “If you have more than you need, it no longer belongs only to you. Your responsibility is to lift up those who are still beneath you.” And he did not stop at words. That very night, Atkinson announced that all profits from his archived works and future creative projects—estimated at 160 million USD—will be donated to fund children’s health initiatives, climate action programs, and arts education for underprivileged youth. His message was unmistakable: “Legacy is not built on what you earn. It is built on what you give.” In an era when celebrities are often dismissed as hollow symbols, Rowan Atkinson delivered a powerful reminder to the world: true impact is not created by applause, but by easing the suffering of others.
