Nest site fidelity and consistency in nest arrival date probably helps white stork pairs staying together. @BirdsMove tracking data from @Movetech_GPS devices.

It is amazing to see how Ruína (female) and Casével (male), our resident pair of #Whitestorks, despite not spending the winters together, are very consistent in the pattern of their movements and always seem to return to the nest less than a week apart! #ornithology

How long does it take for a juvenile stork to decide where to breed and to settle a migratory strategy? Long term @Movetech_GPS data will help determine this, @BirdsMove @InesCatry @MartaAcacio @BrunoHerlander @ueaenv @ueaceec
Birds On The Move@BirdsMove

In 2019, we caught a female German #WhiteStork wintering in Portugal. The following winters were spent in Madrid and today she is heading off to Frankfurt! How long it will take to arrive to her nest?

Everyone loves maps! @_BTO's @plectrophenax demonstrates how cutting edge technology not only provides fantastic ecological information on birds, but is also great for public engagement. #BTONI_2018

Some Short-eared Owl females leave the chick-rearing to their partners and move on, @_BTO's John Calladine has found. #BTONI_2018

To procrastinate on other work stuff, I figured out how to animate telemetry data in R. Here's a day-by-day look at how a few mottled ducks spent their year.

164 captive-bred blackbirds will soon decide where to spend the Northern winter: Lake Constance? France? Spain? Are the Russian-heritage blackbirds going first? Or the French-ies? Follow them live with #ICARUSintiative tags on the animal tracker app.

Another remarkable journey from a young Scottish Osprey - non stop UK to Morocco, flying over Brittany without stopping. A massive contrast between where it last roosted in England & it next set foot on the ground on coastal cliffs in Morocco! #ornithology #AnimalTracker #Ospreys

We're working with @ForestryCommEng to explore the feasibility of restoring the White-tailed Eagle to the South Coast of England through a reintroduction project based on the Isle of Wight. To find out more, and to give your views on the project visit roydennis.org/isleofwight

Long & unusual migration by a juv Scottish Osprey. It left Brittany on 25/9 at 15:40 & flew non-stop for 2,522 km averaging 53 kph/33 mph, taking 1d 23h 30m to reach Africa. Strong easterlies in the Bay of Biscay pushed it offshore, but it recovered in the end! #ornithology

The Great British Game industry relies on the illegal killing of birds of prey. Like this young golden eagle, found poisoned on a Scottish grouse moor. Just one of many. #GBgameweek
