Homeless 3 x made redundant 4x no payouts /benefits. Yes its hard today but blaming pensioners pretty low. Yes kids let school at 15.

Never will understand why old people get so viciously angry when it is explained to them they bought houses at a good time and it would be nice if similar conditions existed now. I suppose it is just insecurity at the idea owning a home really wasn’t a grand achievement for them.

Read the comments under my original post. You show them houses they can afford and they come up with spurious excuse after spurious excuse why they can't. Good God, these people. No wonder the country is doomed. Hardly anyone under about 40 wants to get off their bums and actually do anything to make their lives better. But they'll moan at pensioners. 🙄

@linmeitalks Just downsized.. after costs repairs & the stress we are no better off... and I spent my money on making sure my children had a decent life & home & didnt suffer what I did being made homeless 3x walking the streets looking for a place to live..didn't your parents love you enough

Can I ask why, if a pensioner has worked all their life, they only have the state pension to rely on? Didn’t decide to save ?

And yes if your children have flown the nest and you, or you and your spouse are knocking around in a 3 or 4 bedroom house you bought decades ago- SELL it.

You can buy a nice little house like this in Suffolk with a 5% deposit of £6,000. Nationwide, Barclays and others are offering good deals for first time buyers with only a 5% deposit. But then you'd have to forego your gap year in the Far East and Antipodes or your fancy wedding. Poor you. Boo hoo. 🤣

I was a conveyancer for 40 years. Right up to my retirement a little while ago, I was acting for people in their 20s buying houses. Because they weren't lazy entitled bastards.

@ThisLeadenPall House prices were 3/4 times the average salary back. They are now 7/8 times the average salary. My parents had a 3 bedroom in the early 80’s on my dads factory salary alone. My mom didn’t go back to work until I went to school. I’m just saying its wrong to say now is easy street

Even with free childcare you are still looking at well over £1k per month full time by me. My comparative mortgage costs in 2026 probably somewhat dwarf yours from 1976. Lets not pretend you heroically struggled and its all easy street now

How many women like me were forced to work part-time when their kids were young because there was no free child care, breakfast or after-school clubs then? Pin money hardly gave us chance to build a pension pot so excuse me if I don’t feel guilty about drawing my state pension.
