Most sex workers are mothers, working to feed our families. As poverty increases, more women go into sex work to survive. When the Child Tax Credit was expanded in 2021, child poverty fell by nearly 50%. Tell Congress to bring back the refundable, expanded Child Tax Credit.

CA bill SB 1219 re-criminalizes standing in a public place for anyone police suspect is loitering for prostitution. This bill makes sex workers and others less safe! Senate Public Safety Committee hearing is 4/2/24. See Action Alert to oppose this. uspros.net/2024/03/28/act…

Oppose CA AB 2034! See Action Alert. Contact the CA Assembly Public Safety Committee before March 12th. AB 2034 criminalizes loitering for prostitution AGAIN! The old law, repealed in 2022, was known for its sexist, racist, and transphobic enforcement. uspros.net/2024/03/07/act…

Stop criminalizing sex work in San Francisco! The City's prostitution Task Force recommended decriminalization nearly 30 years ago! Instead, barricades on Capp Street and more police harassment push women, trying to feed families, into more danger. sfstandard.com/2024/02/15/sho…

TS Jelena Vermilion - 💉FULLY VACCINATED x5 💉MPx2
Thank you to @CHCHNews @CHCHTV @MorningLive for covering the assault against me at @SACHAHamOnt's Take Back The Night march on September 21st. I am still recovering from the concussion. @HamiltonPolice are investigating an assault that took place at a march against gender-based violence as a potential hate crime. Officers were present at the Take Back the Night march in the downtown core around 8:25 p.m. Thursday when they were approached by multiple women reporting that a man had assaulted one of the participants. Investigators say that the suspect attempted to grab the victim’s sign and when he was unsuccessful, he assaulted the victim. In a video shared by the victim to social media, the man can be seen ripping the banner that read “Decriminalize sex work” and “Rights not rescue” out of the hands of Jelena Vermilion (@IsisIntrepid), an advocate for sex work, Executive Director of @SWAPHamilton Vermilion can then be seen pursuing the man before violently falling to the ground and being dragged while holding on to the banner. Chants of “Who keeps us safe? We keep us safe!” could be heard in the crowd as a police siren approached the scene. Police say the 29-year-old man [Corey Jeffery] has been charged with level one assault and the incident is currently being reviewed by the hate crime unit. The annual Take Back the Night event is hosted by Hamilton’s sexual assault centre, @SACHAhamont In a statement released following the incident, SACHA says the march is held each year to “raise awareness about how unsafe streets are for so many in our communities” and “to resist, to mobilize and fight for spaces where we can be safer and thrive.” Mayor @AndreaHorwath commented on the assault, saying the march is “all about ensuring women’s safety” and that there is “clearly much more work that needs to be done.” Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 905-546-4725. In the 1980s/90s, Margaret Prescod, founder of the Black Coalition Fighting Back Serial Murders, said "There'd be more response from the police if these were San Marino housewives. …If you're Black and living on the fringe, your life isn't worth much.” teenvogue.com/story/gilgo-be…

"The lack of police response to the murder of sex workers allows serial killers to keep killing. Rachel West, a representative of US PROStitutes Collective...pointed out that serial killers might begin with sex workers and move on to other women." teenvogue.com/story/gilgo-be…

#GilgoBeach In 2011, Chief of Detectives for serial murder case, referred to victims' status as sex workers, calling it a "consolation" that the murderer wasn't "selecting citizens at large--he's selecting from a pool." (WAPO) Police contempt for sex workers prejudiced the case!

Reporting by WAPO shows #GilgoBeach serial killer investigation riddled with infighting between prosecutors & detectives. Pivotal lead, ignored for 10+ years, could have cracked the case! How many MORE women died as a result of police negligence & utter disregard for sex workers?

New Maine bill, sponsored by Rep. Lois Reckitt (D,) does not support the most vulnerable! Most sex workers are mothers, many single mothers, struggling to support our children and families. Women of color are the poorest. The bill offers no $ resources to help us out of poverty!

Decriminalization removes prostitution from the criminal law & gives legal, health, employment and other rights to sex workers. While the new Maine law, based on the Nordic Model, criminalizes clients rather than sex workers, it is not decriminalization! prostitutescollective.net/briefing-no-no…
