It’s about 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 — and America is winning on every front. Start with oil. The Strait of Hormuz carries 𝟒𝟓% 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚’𝐬 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲. Trump effectively captured Venezuela’s oil supply in January. As Armstrong put it: “𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘸𝘩𝘰’𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯. 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘪𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴.” China is in the middle of a tariff negotiation with Trump — and suddenly its entire energy supply depends on American goodwill. Then Europe. With Russian energy off the table and domestic energy hollowed out by the “𝘭𝘦𝘧𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘰,” Europe is becoming 𝐰𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐚𝐬. Armstrong: “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘰.” Armstrong connected the dots to what the Pentagon calls 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 — Greenland through the Panama Canal, the entire Western Hemisphere secured as a self-sufficient American economic and security zone. “𝘕𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦-𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢.” The most striking part was his warning for Britain: “𝘞𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺. 𝘞𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 60% 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥. 𝘞𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺. 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥.” He described Britain heading toward 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 as America withdraws from its traditional role. When a foreign ally’s own news anchors are publicly acknowledging that Trump’s strategy is working — even as it leaves them behind — that tells you everything about who has the leverage. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐭: 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐨𝐬. 𝐇𝐞’𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬.

The question I keep coming back to is whether there are actually people within the administration who believe that striking military targets on Kharg Island, issuing existential threats, or even targeting civilian infrastructure, such as rail systems can realistically compel Iran to compromise. I don’t know what messages Israeli officials are conveying in Washington. But I do know what the strategic reality looks like: the current Iranian leadership is highly unlikely to capitulate. Not under threats, and not under military pressure. If the underlying assumption is that coercive pressure will force Tehran to concede then that assumption is deeply flawed. In such a framework, escalation becomes the more likely outcome. If this is indeed the logic driving policy, then escalation is imminent. Trump will not be able to reach an agreement with Iran if his approach relies solely on coercion, without recognizing that the current regime in Tehran perceives itself as having achieved meaningful gains in this confrontation. As long as he ignores this perception, they are operating on a flawed premise. From Tehran’s perspective, this is not a moment of weakness that invites concession, but one that reinforces resilience and strategic patience. Without acknowledging how the Iranian leadership interprets the current balance of outcomes, even the most severe threats are unlikely to change behavior. Pressure without recognition of perceived gains does not produce compromise, it entrenches resistance. #iran

U.S. official says the strikes on Kharg island, in the early morning hours Tuesday EST, were not directed at oil infrastructure, but were "re-strikes" on military targets that were hit previously

Chokepoints are now more valuable than gold. The most valuable real estate on the planet. Under Biden we lost the most important chokepoint in the world, the Suez Canal, to the Houthis. We lost Gibraltar when woke politicians in the UK and Spain refused to allow 🇺🇸 ships to fuel there. We lost the Kerch Strait and Bosporus to Russia. Trump is a real estate legend. And he came in swinging. Day one after the election: Argentina’s President invited to Mar-a-Lago. This is not an active chokepoint today but is THE most important backup chokepoint for the US Navy if the Panama Canal fails. He offered asylum to South Africans to put diplomatic pressure on that government. He appointed Lou Sola to chair @fmc_gov and investigate chokepoint control. He dispatched diplomats when Norway refused to bunker Navy ships. He pressured the UK hard to secure the English Channel from migrant boats. He launched the largest carrier bombing offensive in naval history against the Houthis in Yemen and pirates in Somalia. He cut the steady flow of cash from USAID and Minnesota to Somali warlords. He demanded (and, yes, failed) to end the Russia-Ukraine war to reopen the Bosporus to 🇺🇸 ships. He sent @PeteHegseth and @SecRubio to secure the Navy’s most important chokepoint: Panama. He dialed back rhetoric with China to keep goods flowing through the Taiwan Strait while improving security of the Luzon Strait. He got an icebreaker deal signed to secure the Bering Strait. He pushed back HARD on the UN @IMOHQ carbon tax that would have eliminated fueling options at chokepoints. He closed the GIUK gap by playing hardball with Denmark over Greenland. He put the Indonesian President front and center at Davos and, just last week, made a huge tariff deal to secure the Malacca Strait. Now he’s laser-focused on the most important energy chokepoint in the world: the Strait of Hormuz. In a world of geopolitical crisis, chokepoints are king and Trump is the only leader on earth treating them like the strategic real estate they are.

The US and China are now competing over control of chokepoints ahead of a conflict both sides increasingly see as inevitable. China spent a decade building leverage over critical supply chain choke points essential to the US industrial base. Now the Gulf War has handed Washington leverage over the energy and supply chain arteries critical to China’s industrial base. Hormuz matters far more to China than it does to the United States. But if the US Navy is now responsible for safely escorting ships and the DFC has a monopoly backstopping war risk insurance, then Washington becomes the gatekeeper of security at the world’s most important energy chokepoint. The US can now decide which cargoes get the lowest friction access and which buyers get priority. Squeeze the US on rare earths and the US squeezes back on Hormuz. China built a stranglehold over critical supply chains to deter the US. But the Gulf war may have given the US a reciprocal lever over China’s supply chain.

🌐🇩🇪Germany faces challenges filling gas storage tanks ahead of the upcoming summer season. German gas storage tanks are at historically low levels According to the latest data from the Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory (GIE) as of mid-February 2026, storage in Germany is at around 26-30%, which is significantly lower than in previous years (e.g. around 56% in February 2025) and below the EU average. This decline is a result of a cold winter that increased heating consumption, and the absence of cheap Russian gas supplies that Germany previously relied on. Bloomberg warns of a difficult summer filling season. Trading Hub Europe Director Torsten Frank warned that the upcoming summer gas injection season will be “very difficult” for storage operators. High summer gas prices combined with a flat price curve for the winter of 2026/2027 create zero or negative margins for storage, which discourages the purchase and storage of gas. This makes it difficult to sell storage capacity for the following year. Planned closures of two large facilities. Two major storage facilities – Breitbrunn (Uniper) and Wolfersberg (Bayernugs) – have already submitted applications to close due to long-term uneconomical conditions and unsuccessful capacity sales. The regulator (BNetzA) is still in the process of deciding, and the closures could reduce the overall flexibility of Germany’s gas infrastructure, although according to the Ministry of Economics this should not jeopardise security of supply. Government assures security of supply, but concerns are growing The German government and regulator BNetzA have repeatedly stressed that the current situation does not pose an imminent risk of outages thanks to LNG imports, the Norwegian pipeline and diversified sources. However, low stocks at the end of winter are increasing costs, political pressure and discussions about changing EU storage rules after 2027, including a possible switch to national strategic reserves. The situation underlines the long-term impact of the switch from Russian gas to more expensive alternatives and increases sensitivity to weather and global market fluctuations.
