I’m 30. I have been serving as a soldier in the Ukrainian army for 6 years.
During this time, I have lived through three phases of the same war: the forgotten trench war before 2022, the maneuver phase of the full-scale invasion (2022–2024), and the drone war that continues now alongside a war of attrition.
I served as a combat medic in a reconnaissance platoon. Now I am a strike UAV crew commander.
I have also written three poetry books during these years. One of them, Dasein: Defense of Presence, has been translated into English, French, and German.
These photos by Khrystyna Kulakovska are my attempt to remember who I am beyond the war.

We have women as sisters, mothers, wives, colleagues, and friends. Many of them display these patterns. This isn’t an attack; it’s the truth. Women are very ungrateful.

Zelensky is not even my president (I should be so lucky) and I feel so much pride in seeing this. I am no great fan of al-Sharaa, and I get the sense that not everything in Syria is under control yet, but to see them receiving Z with such respect is refreshing.
