@beyond_fps I don't see any new info in the video. This was all mentioned in the article they released right after the announcement. Still don't know why anyone thought it did anything at the geometry level. nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/…

@MrMPFR I am sure it will improve over time. Games/assets being developed with neural rendering in mind will help as well.

@compusemble Impossible to say where generative rendering will be years from now, but the implementation in DLSS 5 is definitely not a feasible implementation. As Battaglia highlighted DLSS 4 inputs (pixels and motion vectors) is problematic. It's a cool tech demo nothing more.

Testing RTX Skin (subsurface scattering of light), which is part of DLSS 5. Face model isnt as complex as Grace, but even here, SSS ON gives the ILLUSION that the geometry of her ear/area around ear, nose, lips, jaw line is altered even tho it isnt - only the lighting has changed

@MrMPFR This is meant to show that advanced lighting techniques like subsurface scattering on skin (which DLSS 5 does) can give an illusion of the geometry of the underlying asset being altered even though it isn't.

@compusemble Has nothing to do with DLSS 5. This is probably based on the ReSTIR SSS paper from a couple of years ago. Plain old PT, not generative rendering.

The performance difference enabling Ray Reconstruction is brutal on Crimson Desert, goes from ~80s fps with 4K DLAA to ~55 with DLSS on Quality They must be enabling higher quality RT settings when RR is on, there is no way otherwise

Second half of the video is a close up of her ear. The face model is much simpler than Grace or other face models in actual games, so the difference between off and on will not be as drastic. Sample here: github.com/NVIDIA-RTX/RTX…

So ... turns out that those studios that "made" those DLSS 5 clips didn't know anything about it, either. It was obviously Nvidia, hence why they all look the same.

@krispy1337 @Spectromachina DLSS 5 is using RTX Character Rendering for skin, not RTX Neural Faces. It's possible that this images uses both, but RTX Neural Faces has nothing to do with DLSS 5. DLSS 5 can't change anything other than lighting and material interaction (light penetration, reflection.)

@compusemble @Spectromachina So you are saying that this is not similar to what DLSS 5 does? It replaces the face look exactly just like shown in the video, changes lip look, aswell as eyes and puts a smooth filter over the skin...

Great comparison here. DLSS 5 off vs on. Same face model. Same geometry. Better lighting.

@EndymionYT What a terrible take. It's just real light, nothing more and nothing less! Why doesn't anyone get that!? The character models are not altered by the AI. That's just how it looks when you add real lighting to video games.

@krispy1337 @Spectromachina Has nothing to do with RTX Neural faces. DLSS 5 doesn't use any of the inputs required for that. RTX Neural faces requires rasterized face + 3D pose data as input. DLSS 5 only takes color & motion vectors as input. It literally has no mechanism with which it can alter geometry.

@compusemble @Spectromachina Because it literally is, you aren't looking into the lips or anything else, it's using RTX Neural Faces and you can already notice that

PC will be the first platform to support ray tracing in Death Stranding 2. Specifically, it will support RT Reflections and RT Ambient Occlusion, neither of which are present on base PS5 or PS5 Pro. blog.playstation.com/2026/03/17/dea…

@compusemble Its not better lighting, it add an hdr like style, kinda like the iphone post processing, it ruins the mood and makes everything looks the same, no art direction

@compusemble NPCs cannot comprehend how light behaves around geometry. If you change the lighting, they think it's a different person. That's why they hate DLSS 5.

@gkgftzb Lighting can have a dramatic effect on how a character looks. This has always been the case. It's nothing new.

@compusemble If the lighting is so wildly different it makes it look like a different character, then I don't care if it's technically more advanced, it looks WORSE. Also making female characters look like supermodels and those "hot" edits. Really disagree with you on this one
