Thanks so much, @cerny! Thrilled to see @AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 delivering stunning results in PC games, built on the same neural network foundation as the upgraded PSSR for PS5 Pro. Project Amethyst has been an absolute pleasure and a true co-engineering success with you and the @PlayStation team. Grateful for the partnership, onward to more graphics breakthroughs! 🚀
Mark Cerny@cerny

Just tried FSR Upscaling 4.1 in a few PC games. It’s based on the same neural network as the upgraded PSSR we released for PS5 Pro… and it looks stunning! Wonderful working with @jackhuynh and the @AMD team as we collaborate on AI graphics tech. Big win for Project Amethyst :-)

@Maicon_LH44 @compusemble We have some early indications. Gamers Nexus pointed out the garbling around the football in the FIFA game and a part of one of the arms of the character disappearing and appearing randomly. I agree it's useless. A tech demo with zero applicability.

@compusemble @MrMPFR In its current state, there's no way to defend the use of this technology. It transforms AAA games into mere advertisements for misleading mobile games. And we haven't even seen the AI artifacts it generates during character and camera movement.

Testing RTX Skin (subsurface scattering of light), which is part of DLSS 5. Face model isnt as complex as Grace, but even here, SSS ON gives the ILLUSION that the geometry of her ear/area around ear, nose, lips, jaw line is altered even tho it isnt - only the lighting has changed

@MPodgorze @Frogboyx1Gaming @Ubisoft @AMD @ASUS Navi 4C was just a crappy design. They could've scaled to bigger monolithic GPU but opted not to do it. RDNA 5 architecture is radically different and template for chiplets is already there, but the ATx lineup is monolithic. But AT0 is supposedly a 192 CU monster.

@Frogboyx1Gaming @Ubisoft @AMD @ASUS The last number I've heard was cut down 2 chip so 96cu. DLSS5 could explain how they fix using couple GPU chips - second chip would just do AI filtering (FSR5?).

Its true I Love @Ubisoft games Think DLSS 5 looks awesome Love @AMD Radeon PS5 Pro Xbox Series X Switch 2 and My Xbox Ally X and became part of the problem for shamelessly buying and RTX 5090 and using @ASUS parts to build both my high-end PC'S. Can We Still Be Friends?

@compusemble Impossible to say where generative rendering will be years from now, but the implementation in DLSS 5 is definitely not a feasible implementation. As Battaglia highlighted DLSS 4 inputs (pixels and motion vectors) is problematic. It's a cool tech demo nothing more.

@compusemble I would say it does a better job than DLSS 5. More consistent and fewer artifacts. Throw in a neural skin shader, LSS, radiance and visibility caches, and neural materials into the mix and it'll look insane.

@SebAaltonen Can this be fixed within DX12 and Vulkan or do we need a brand new API like you suggest months ago?

The PSO explosion has grown so much that today we need massive cloud servers to deliver the PSOs. Each vendor has their own solutions. We should fix the root cause instead of building this massive infrastructure. tomshardware.com/pc-components/…

@blueisviolet Jason Ronald said GPU-driven simulation at GDC. GPU will not just drive graphics, but procedural generation and many non-graphics related systems. Large impact for AAA, but even bigger for indie and AA. They can try out weird shit like AMD's HPG 2025 PCG tree tech in their games.

workgraph will be enforced slowly "bypasses some CPU functionality, allowing operations to run directly on the GPU" "DX12 Ray Tracing shifts a large part of its CPU-bound pipeline to GPU-driven workloads" The Problem is PS5/pro, XSX is ready so do Helix techpowerup.com/347491/microso…

It's funny how most of the people I see defending DLSS 5 are basically just "you're too stupid to understand it". Kinda reminds me of how we were too stupid to understand NFTs.
Georgian Avasilcutei@nimlot26

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

@penderekki @beyond_fps DLSS 5 is never gonna look good without broader context. You can just flood a ML model with rendered pixels and motion vectors and hope for the best. This is why Neural shaders integrated directly into the existing rendering pipeline, not this, will be the future of graphics.

@beyond_fps The only way to interpret your outrage is to assume that you actually are an idiot who thinks DLSS will never improve.

@Am252230Moses @beyond_fps Neural materials + better skin shader + LSS + neural volumetrics + a few solid radiance caches should get the job done. The stuff they talked about at CES when announcing 50 series, not this slop filter.

@beyond_fps Nvidia is even wasting a lot of computational power, when all you need is probably ue5 + pt to achieve the neural look. But... If 6060 has inference to achieve this... Nvidia won

@Dangerman1337 @NikTek It's probably gonna happen based on filings and papers. They also hired a lot of experts from other companies. From what I can tell the architecture is a massive improvement. And no not SRAM spam, but actually clever design maximizing intersected ray/mm^2.

@Dangerman1337 @NikTek The problem is not TFLOPs but matmul throughput bottlenecked by caches and memory subsystem. If they can make a better design it might be far stronger than the on paper specs even if it's only 2X dense FP8.

DLSS 5 currently requires two RTX 5090s to run and looks like AI slop. Nvidia hopes to bring it down to only one GPU before release. This model looks objectively worse than the previous model and it is extremely taxing on GPUs. DLSS is supposed to offer better performance when turned on, not worse. I suspect that Nvidia will do what they do best with future GPUs, which is focusing more on AI performance gains that will yield better DLSS 5 results. They will showcase charts of how previous GPUs cant handle games when DLSS 5 is turned on and the new RTX 60 will offer better performance when DLSS 5 is turned on. “RTX 6070 will have 5090 performance” but only when you enable DLSS 5 with 10X frame-gen

@blueisviolet Epic doesn't care what Sony thinks. They've been aboard the Work Graphs train since the beginning. Gonna abandon old pipeline completely for UE6 is my guess and go all in on Work Graphs. If someone can't support it that's their problem.

means Sony know that workgraph will be soon enforced, means theory seems inline as they can not hold back UE advancement even if they part of UE investor,😎 means they must adding workgraph emulation layer for PS5/pro in process potentially delaying PS6, Xbox Cover this since XSX

from Jason Slide we can see that the preferred engine for Unified model will be Unity, Unreal + etc thats basically confirm maybe Unreal 6.0 will need workgraph enforced as last year they demoed workgraph for UE 5.x as testcase. slide is from 5.5 which add basic Wgraph support

@MrMPFR @PeterP_1985 DLSS5 is them injecting a post-process filter that takes the color and motion vectors and alters the color values to change material response while keeping the original textures data in tact. NRC, Neural Materials, etc are integrated into the render pipeline directly.

@blueisviolet That's the real goal of DX12 and Helix, not this. Jason Ronald already mentioned this at GDC, people have been discussing it behind the scenes for years, an NVIDIA unveiled vision at CES 2025 with 50 series.

Neural rendering & BC will be next interesting thing no wonder NG Game preservation is one feat listed on Helix, FSR diamond System level version will be similar target but wont be similar target like DLSS demo, Neural + BC, dont modify the actual game.

DLSS 5 is absolutely staggering. Its neural‑rendered lighting, materials, and detail push visual fidelity into an entirely new generation. Playing with DLSS 5 feels like stepping into future‑grade tech that somehow exists today. It’s genuinely astonishing Project Helix preview?

It is just me or the DLSS 5 shots just make me feel "odd" or "unsettled". They're just over the top, and to be honest ALL games shown so far, have the same type of lighting applied, which makes them all feel the same... Same tone, same lighting, everything the same... What I see is NVIDIA controlling game developing here... And in most shots? The "normal" game looks much better with DLSS 4. Artistically speaking. People don't want ultra realistic lighting and faces in all games.
