This was the exact way I felt 2 years ago when I was seriously hunting for a job in RSUTH. Someone I knew and had worked with, knew the CMD in-person and they had a good relationship, so all my hope was on this person to help me speak with the CMD. This person was someone that we had a sister like relationship at or former place of work, even outside of the work environment, I help her do a lot of things. She gave me all the assurance in the world that she was going to help me speak with the CMD on my behalf. On this particular day, I went to the hospital with all my documents so she’d take me to the CMDs office. I went to her office, sat with her for a while while she saw her patients, when she was done, she took me the the CMDs office(who had not arrived as at then), and I waited patiently while this lady let to return to her office. A few minutes later, the CMD entered and I and the others who were seated were asked to go out and stand. Long story short, I didn’t get that job. Why? When this lady left me to back to her office was when she met the CMD arriving to the hospital and walking to his office, the CMD saw her and they greeted warmly and he asked her “how far na Dr Martha, wetin you come find for my area?” At this point you’d expect she’d bring up my case Abi? NO she didn’t. She replied; “Ehnnnn I come see person for this side” The CMD asked her “you Dey sure, cause you Dey hardly reach this side” She still replied “na person wey I come see” And that was it, I didn’t get job because someone pretended to be helping me but behind she couldn’t speak on my behalf even when granted the golden opportunity. I learnt a heavy lesson to never put my hope in anybody. I went home that afternoon, tired and with duty feet, laid on my bed and cried. February 2025, I got a better job at my current place.

@Dr_Afo This is terrible. But why are we this wicked to our colleagues and juniors? Like I have always said, we don't like ourselves. We are some of our problems in this country. What kind of wickedness and level of insensitivity is this???

I had a conversation with a locum Dr that once worked in a popular Neurosurgery private clinic in Lagos. He said that this charges a minimum of 7 million for his cases, operates almost everyday and has an in-house ICU that the medical officer on call covers with ICU nurse and remote contact with anaesthetist. The work in the hospital is crazy but the owner of the hospital, the Neurosurgery has refused to pay more than 350k or hire more than 2 doctors to cover the entire hospital. Many times, his doctors will complain that 350k is small for assisting 12hr surgeries and doing alternate day call but he doesn't care. His hospital mints millions weekly but he can't pay 500k to keep his doctors. So doctors often come in, work for one month and run away. To fix this, he has since hired male nurses and now uses them to cover his clinic and ICU duties.

My friend got sacked after 3 months of working in a hospital. The owner of the hospital, a medical officer who relocated to Canada with the family told him he no longer needed his service as 350k monthly was too much for him. Since then that hospital is being managed by a male auxiliary worker he trained while he was in Nigeria, he even consult via phone call with the guy. One truth we never told ourselves, professional healthcare workers are the chief enablers of quackery.

@LukeObhokhan @Senior_Sley Somehow looking for a justification for this heinous crime someone was planning to execute? You think that if he is paid well, he won't think of a more lucrative business in kidnapping? I hope you get something to employ people and pay well so you will evade kidnapping. Nonsense

Something happened in Ota, Ogun State today. This guy on green jersey kneeling down is named Owolabi Moses. He's a driver to one Mr Chidozie Joseph who runs a depot, so Owolabi Moses helps him with supply. Owolabi Moses planned with three other guys to kidnap his boss Mr Chidozie Joseph, extort all his money by way if ransom payment but still murder him. One of the guys he contacted for the job who works as a butcher and had earlier agreed to it suddenly developed cold feet and his conscience started to prick him. So he went to the office of the community vigilante group, named So Safe Security and reported himself and the others about what they were planning. The rest of the gang were all arrested and have been handed over to the police. I have videos were they confessed to planning the crime at the police state. Mr Chidozie Joseph would have been taken and murdered after ransom is paid. - Kelly Hassino

@Whyalways_rex I don't think they are the most competitive team in this tournament, France, Argentina are. They are the clear favourite. Portugal stands alongside Spain and Morocco!

This makes a lot of sense. You have Rafa Leao, Neto and Concecaio coming from the bench as options on the wings, also Ruben Neves and Samu Costa will be options in the midfield I believe Portugal have the most competitive team in the tournament and when managed well they can make history. It could be July, Grandma 🥹🙏🏾

Abstract got accepted 😁 Just realized this makes it 3 consecutive SSAM Conferences where I've contributed research. Tbf, airway management remains one of my favourites aspects of anaesthesia, and so much advancement is happening at an alarming rate. I'm really looking forward to what the future holds. Next stop SSAM Ilorin 2026. Onwards and Upwards 💪👍

@Benkive Nigeria sha...man boldly put it in his bio, that's to tell how how dangerous quackery is becoming in this country. I blamed the doctor who because of cheap labor emboldened these people. He needs to be arrested also for enabling quackery!

On the story of our Popular Orthopedic surgeon. He is fondly called Nwa Dubai. He started working with an Orthopedic surgeon here in Onitsha since 2020 The surgeon is known for employing Auxiliaries, down to laboratory section. Due to lack of a trained doctor, he tends to use the male nurses to do the job of the doctors. After a period of 5 years, Nwadubia aka Dr Nwadubia opened up his own. According to story, he has performed some procedures in his new place. My question is. If you could be loyal to a boss for 5yrs to learn how to do these procedures. Why not use that years to go into medical school? He probably could be in his finals by now #Putanendquarkery

Diary of a Female Surgery Resident
The first time I took my daughter to Kiddiz, I met a Medical officer. I only told him I'm a civil servant. He was like where do I work, I said "A Federal government parastatal", i guess the word made him pause. He looked at me for a moment, shook his head and continued the review. By the time he was done, an SR was there who knew me and that's the person who gave me away. "Dr Adewole, ahan, what happened to our baby?", the MO and I looked at each other and he shouted. "I just knew it. Your baby was acting too familiar with the stethoscope. Parastatal my footing 😄 🤣 😂 "

Yes it's possible but it's not advisable. One specialty is enough to keep you busy. One, it takes years to finish a single speciality. For instance, if you want to be a cardiologist and urologist, that will be 12-14 years of training. What's much more advisable is having multiple subspecialty. For instance, you be both a urologist and general surgeon in 9 years And it even gets better the more niche you go. As a general surgeon, you will be more valued if you subspecialize in two fields, for instance minimal access and hepatobiliary.
