most people in emerging markets are unknowingly short their own currency REER — real effective exchange rate — is a framework that measures whether a currency is cheap or expensive relative to where it should be. the algorithm is straightforward: take a base year, calculate the cumulative inflation differential between a local economy and the US, then compare that to how much the nominal exchange rate has actually moved. if your currency depreciated less than the inflation gap suggests, it's overvalued. if it depreciated more, it's cheap — meaning local purchasing power has been destroyed faster than the exchange rate reflects right now, several major EM currencies score as deeply undervalued by this measure: turkish lira 🇹🇷, egyptian pound 🇪🇬, south african rand 🇿🇦 that means local savers get hit twice: inflation erodes purchasing power, and the currency depreciates against everything else the only structural escape is to earn a yield that actually exceeds local inflation — which is exactly what government bonds are designed to do. they're priced to compensate for inflation risk. it's why central banks set rates above CPI the problem: those bonds were locked behind brokers, minimum balances, and banking infrastructure most people don't have access to CETES 🇲🇽 — Mexico's peso was deeply undervalued for years. friend-shoring and FDI flows have pushed it back toward fair value, but cumulative inflation since 1999 still runs ahead of the nominal rate adjustment. CETES yields ~5.78% — the government's built-in compensation for that gap TESOURO 🇧🇷 — BRL is one of the most structurally undervalued major currencies by REER. Brazil's cumulative inflation since 1999 dwarfs nominal depreciation adjustments. the government knows this — which is why TESOURO yields ~13.18%. that's not generosity, that's the math of keeping capital onshore KTB 🇰🇷 — KRW has lost ~25% against the dollar since 2022 while Korean inflation stayed relatively contained. that divergence = REER cheapness. KTB at ~2% is modest, but it's the legitimate inflation hedge for savings held in won GILTS 🇬🇧 — GBP took a structural hit post-Brexit, then absorbed one of the worst inflation shocks in UK history (peaked at 11%). the nominal rate never fully caught up. GILTS at ~3.45% are priced to compensate UK savers for exactly that erosion EUROB 🇪🇺 — EUR has weakened significantly since the 2021-22 energy crisis and ECB rate cuts in 2025 pushed it further. eurozone REER is below long-run averages. EUROB at ~1.64% reflects the ECB's suppressed rate environment — but it still beats holding cash in a depreciating currency CETES 🇲🇽, TESOURO 🇧🇷, KTB 🇰🇷, GILTS 🇬🇧, EUROB 🇪🇺 — these are the instruments that actually protect local savers. we put them on-chain if you're holding cash in an undervalued currency, you're not saving. you're slowly getting liquidated

DeFi Composability for RWAs Stellar network is meant for real assets, used by real people, with real activity. DeFi composability for RWAs is essential for that. However, regulations currently prevent the vast majority of RWAs from being freely transferable and thus fully composable. Still, notable issuers of freely transferable RWAs on Stellar include @Etherfuse and @Centrifuge, which wraps existing tokenized securities like JTRSY (tokenized U.S. treasuries) into freely transferable tokens via its deRWA token standard. DeFi composability for existing and new RWAs is a priority for SDF in 2026, which has set a goal to sign 15 new enterprises in 2026, with at least five deployed on the network by year-end. Target organizations include Forbes Global 2000 companies, leading international NGOs, and government agencies that can use the Stellar network to power payments, treasury management, settlement, and other financial workflows.
