Jai is so based - I can build Android apps without touching Android Studio, or dealing with Graddle directly at all (I guess apart from running an actual emulator lol).
There are just modules that let you define everything in Jai, invoke NDK and so on.

This is using the new androidx.navigationevent API, available since AndroidX Activity 1.12.0.
AndroidX NavigationEvent also supports KMP.

@JorgeCastilloPr I really really have doubt about things like that because 10+ years ago we have software built with all View complexity and animations and behaving very well. Android and its hardware has improved and people still saying improving performance? What am I missing?

Flutter is fast. Native is forever.
LinkedIn US: 237,000 native Android jobs. 6,400 React Native. 1,068 Flutter. The market has spoken.
For MVPs and internal tools? Cross-platform is fine. For streaming at scale, camera work, device-tier optimization? Native wins. Not my opinion — the production data's opinion.

@hamen Flutter is a excellent player and it'll be for longer. People complaining about it likes slow sync, slow build and press a play button just to see a color changes taking 4GB RAM at least. SWE should never complain about languages, as they complain about Dart. C/C++ still in top.

Some senior devs on here roll their eyes when I say Flutter is the right call for new mobile projects, then quietly go silent when their native-only codebase becomes a maintenance nightmare.
We all make wrong bets. I've made plenty, and I'll make more.
But don't write condescending threads about "cross-platform toys" and then act wounded when I follow up a year later with receipts.
If you're confident in your take, own it either way.

@ChrisKruegerDev @adekk Google still selling Material Design in your technology. CMP is a thing built on it. Flutter has Cupertino to provide this but isn't the main again.

I wish there were a native iOS look and feel in KMP. The only bottleneck in KMP is that it doesn't look native.

After years of using Flutter, I'm ditching Flutter. KMP is the way to go for me from now on. UI works and looks well, with cross-platform logic. Easy development with agents. I tried SwiftUI, but oh boy, now I understand why iOS devs take so much time to build some features. I got tired of having to fight the framework all the time. And no I didn't try React Native with Expo.

In my current University, it has been a recurrent discussion, how to teach/evaluate programming knowledge in times of AI. My proposal:
Public evaluation of students, on stage, being requested to explain and find existing issues over code generated by AI. Thoughts?

How do you teach programming in 2026? I have been teaching programming professionally for two decades. It doesn’t work anymore. I now consistently catch students who produced good software during a 15-week course be unable to write a simple loop at the end of the course. « Just forbid AI. » You can’t put someone in a cage for 100 hours and force them to program without AI. We need to change the whole approach. Maybe go AI first. 🤖 This means MUCH harder homeworks.

I took a different approach than @github_skydoves. I completely want to eliminate the need for devices and emulators while coding. This one is much more difficult to achieve and is still in alpha. Realtime preview like SwiftUI for Android/KMP.

@GregorySchier I switched to VS Code and now VIM. Sometimes I need Intellij and I disabled a lot of things to be a just basic Editor with VIM plugin. My life is better now.
I tried Zed for a while but its start and folder sync is a pain.
