@HaruhiismOtaku It's not "Does he see me as human?" It's "Does he actually want to spend time with me as a friend, or does he just want to fuck me?" Same as being rich and having "friends" who only stick around for the money. Do you have qualities beyond what they want from you?

@hiker_forest @ReviewsPossum Flattered, it really doesn't register as creepy or a betrayal. Even if she had ulterior motives, I wouldn't really care. Had this happen several times. Said no. Girl sometimes kept friendship, sometimes didn't

@ReviewsPossum Because the relationship you established with them was a friendship, not a romantic one. Having a girl friend is different than having a girlfriend. How would you feel if one of your girl friends, who you're not attracted to, confessed to you?

Why are women so repulsed by the idea of a man they know and trust falling in love with them? The dude knows you and decided none of your flaws are deal breakers, and now he wants to spend his life with you. Why is that a bad thing? How is that, in any sense, a betrayal?

@Genki_JPN @serkantoto The don’t know gamers. The storm never passes. No one will buy a PS6, except their small hardcore fans that they themselves have said will accept anything and they don’t need to talk to them. Sony has become so arrogant and don’t even respect their hardcore fans lol

Japanese Game Industry analyst @serkantoto says Sony is unlikely to change its mind about killing discs on PlayStation: "I sympathize with physical media fans, but Sony will not reverse this decision. They of course knew what the online reaction would look like, and they now wait for this storm to pass." "Sony has over 120 million active PlayStation users. Around 50 million people subscribe to PlayStation Plus. As a thought experiment, let's say 500,000 cancel in protest, that would be just 1% of that business gone — of course not enough to Sony to start rethinking. Digital is just too lucrative." ign.com/articles/they-…

@OliverJia1014 I can't grasp the idea of the average consumer just being happy of companies giving them less options for more price I just can't understand it. With wireless earbuds, sure is an advantage... But you also have to charge them. Why not give consumers the option to do both?

No, because there are still devices being made with headphone jacks and wired headphones are still being sold. Once Sony axes PlayStation discs, that’s it. No one else can make physical PlayStation games and Microsoft is all but confirmed to get rid of their physical media too.
͏weeabob@weeabob

is the playstation disc situation reminding anyone else of apple deciding to get rid of the headphone jack? remove old but essential tech, get rightfully relentlessly bullied for months, and a decade later everyone now has wireless earbuds

New estimates suggest that Steam now has over 200 million monthly active users, making Valve’s PC gaming platform more than 50% larger than PlayStation. The estimate comes from GameDiscoverCo, which combined Valve’s Digital Services Act data for Europe with Steam’s public network traffic data to estimate the platform’s global audience. Based on those estimates, Steam reached around 198 million monthly active users in late 2025 and has likely surpassed 200 million since then. For comparison, Sony recently reported that PlayStation had 125 million monthly active users as of March 2026.

@Genki_JPN But the fact that many games have no physical version and do well is an argument against physical games, not for them.

People keep on quoting that 85% of PlayStation games are bought digitally but this stat also includes games that are digital only and don't have physical versions, including smaller games on PSN. If you count newer releases that also have a physical option the ratio of digital games would not be as high on PlayStation.

PlayStation's top games by copies sold in 2026, including some VERY topical physical game splits (@alineaanalytics estimates). FC 26 is #1, in no small part thanks to the World Cup fever currently sweeping the globe (and the marketing around it). We won’t flog that dead horse again, so here’s a couple of new FC 26 estimates: 12% of FC 26’s PlayStation copies sold this year were physical, and 78% were PS5 copies (the rest PS4). Resident Evil Requiem has sold 3.5M copies on PS5 alone, about 27.8% physical. Capcom, for its part, has been quite gleeful (and gleefully un-quiet) about how much back-catalogue revenue it’s making on PC. It calls this its “flywheel-driven business model.'' With its no-discs-in-2028 decision, Sony wants a bigger piece of that flywheel. Come Resident Evil 10, PlayStation and Capcom will be splitting those back-catalogue revenues between them. Arc Raiders has sold 2.1M copies ($80M) on PS5 this year, bringing its PS5 total to 4.7M, all digital (no physical version). 1.6M of this year’s 2.1M came in the first three months (almost a million in January alone), when the game was still having its moment. Arc Raiders sold under 100K last month, even with its biggest PS5 discount to date ($30). So it’s all about keeping the existing players engaged now. 007 First Light has shifted (not stirred!) 2M copies on PS5, its biggest platform by players (almost 60%), in just over two months on the market. 007 has made about $142M on PS5, more than Steam and Xbox put together, and around 21% of copies are physical. Crimson Desert, which launched on 19 March, has sold 1.9M copies on PS5, its secondary platform after Steam, with 19.9% of PS5 copies being physical. Over 1.5M of those PS5 copies sold across March and April. Last month Crimson Desert sold about 112K copies ($8M). To date, Crimson Desert has generated $140M gross on PS5. Units are dropping off, but that $70 price is holding firm. Time for a discount, I reckon. Forza Horizon 5 just keeps selling on PS5, adding another 1.2M copies this year ($55M) since its PS5 port last May, for a PS5 total of 6.2M. It’s still doing 150K-250K a month. And while the Steam version (2021) has sold more copies (8.3M), regional pricing and discounting mean the PS5 version has already out-earned it via copies sold ($340M versus $314M on Steam). The sequel, Forza Horizon 6, has sold 3.4M on Steam ($192M). One can only imagine how much it’d have made on PS5 day-and-date. It'll sell gangbusters when it hits PS5 later this year, and Xbox will be watching those numbers VERY closely. Ghost of Yotei (ah shi', here we go again) is holding strong following its October 2025 launch, adding another 1.2M copies ($80M in back-catalogue revenue) this year. Around 35.4% of those were physical, the highest share on this list, and – again – the kind of number PlayStation wants to curb for its first-party games from 2028. Monthly copies have been consistent all year, the mark of a game that just keeps selling, and it’s only had one discount, so most of this year’s copies sold at the full $70. A great sign for Yotei’s ongoing run, and another reason PlayStation wants to own the pricing. More on the free Subtack (link's in my bio!)

@MinModulation Not only is digital more, they also retain more money from digital sales. A 70 dollar digital sale and 70 dollar physical game sale are not 1:1. IIRC Sony gets more from digital so eliminating physical benefits them and they assume most of the physical onlys will convert

@ZhugeEX Not if they compete in a non-AAA capacity, which would be exactly what they SHOULD do given AAA has been ass for years. Lower-spec hardware for A/AA/indie games would absolutely cut into the Big 3s market share.

@PandaKingEX A lot of people liked Kh2 vanilla. When i talk to people about their PS2 experience, they see Kh2 in high regard. Like the final mix helped but the majority of people who played/liked that game didn't play critical or the data bosses.

When KH2 first came out it was largely considered undercooked, linear and way too easy. The games rise to its status today is thanks to final mix + and hardcore gamers highlighting its game design nuances. There is a lot of herd mentality around calling KH2 the best today.
Darren@lolyousaidfword

@PandaKingEX what people like kh2 because it's a genuinely great game, it's not that deep. the story, the physics engine, the memorable level design, the snappy and well paced combat, is why people like kh2

It’s easy to criticize GTA 5 today with 13 years of hindsight but back in 2013, GTA V was downright revolutionary. Having 3 protagonists in a massive, seamless open world while including wildlife/tennis/racing/golf and Online on a 360/PS3 was mind shattering levels of innovation

@AntonHand @spectraimsim That said, there def are some pirates who buy at launch because of no crack. But I don't think their numbers are knowable from a spreadsheet. I see DRM/Denovo as a peace of mind tax that companies pay. They don't know if they're losing money. But they feel better with it.

@AntonHand @spectraimsim Sega always uses Denovo and has said their games aren't sell to their expectations citing some weaker sales for recent titles. They seek alternate explantions because they can't blame piracy. Those alternate explanations could be true for non-Denovo PC titles
