@LeoVaradkar @LCreighton Leo, lots of FF/FG TDs most likely DO endorse Steen, but are prevented from nominating by the whip system.

@LCreighton You've run for election several times - internal and external. Did any of your nominators not also endorse you, believe in you, think that you were a suitable candidate and want you to win?

What on earth is preventing independent Oireachtas members from nominating Maria Steen as a Presidential candidate? What are they so afraid of? Nomination is not equivalent to endorsement. Let her run. Let’s have a contest. The primary loser in a diminished field is democracy.

@john_mcguirk Rather than leave, they will claim asylum, then seek family reunification. And the State will pay for legal aid to assist their case, while the Dept pays Senior Counsel to argue against it.

This is insanity. Talk to anyone who knows Gaza and they'll tell you: People don't get exit visas from Gaza customarily unless they're thoroughly approved of by the Government of Gaza which is, and remains, Hamas, a genocidal Islamic terror group. rte.ie/news/ireland/2…

@SimplyUtd Innocent until proven guilty? Should his career be ended before any charges have been raised? And career over for 4yrs while police think about it. OK when charges raised, then it is fair to suspend him pending outcome.

At times as much as 83% of Ireland's electricity is generated from gas. Government has plans to ration electricity for weeks and months if anything happens to the single pipeline bringing gas from Britain. With so many risks that cannot be mitigated, it is staggering that storage and LNG facilities have not been built to secure basic energy supply. irishexaminer.com/news/arid-4165…

It’s obvious, but worth repeating: affordable housing - whether to rent or buy - won’t happen unless it’s financed and delivered on a not-for-profit basis. @morningireland

Performative vice signalling by Jim O'Callaghan and government. Deporting school kids at a cost of about €15,000 each, all just so they can try to deflect from FF/FG responsibility for the crises we face. Shame on them. thejournal.ie/deportations-i…

Claire Byrne on rte insists that the ‘root’ of nursing home problems is profit. With so many abuse scandals having happened in state and religious institutions, this view is not just silly and superficial, but represents an anti business bias.

@SuzanneLC3 @OCallaghanJim Very important to send a message out there that deportations happen. We need to stop the Pull factors into Ireland - these folk are arriving from the UK and EU, not directly from Nigeria, so clearly something is attracting them here

Tesco could pay every worker an extra £10,000 and still make a profit. British Gas could pay every worker an extra £35,000 and still make a profit. Shell could pay every worker an extra £300,000 and still make a profit. It is the billionaires who are ripping you off.
