On a serious note - Electric vehicles cause far more road wear and tear than internal combustion engine cars. This is because they are considerably heavier due to the batteries than their ICE equivalents. Electric vehicles also produce more toxic particulates in the air due to heavier wear on the road surface , tyres and breaking system - again due to the extra weight. So much for EVs reducing city street air pollution - they don’t.
Andrew Bridgen@ABridgen

A great typically British take on the state of our roads. Very funny but sadly true. Where is all of the tax money going ? Not on repairing potholes that’s for sure. Please share

James Clark 📈📉¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What a lot of negative responses to this fail to understand: - If you want a functioning society, your grid CANNOT fail - If you need a gas backup renewables for your grid, you need it to be able to cover 100% capacity. - If that is the case then your backup isn't "backup", it is the basis of your grid - So why not just build nuclear instead? Does away with emissions from gas plus unreliability of renewables.
James Clark 📈📉¯\_(ツ)_/¯@mr_james_c

The battery capacity to provide Britain with 2 weeks of electricity during winter would cost more than £2tn. Which is 20x the cost of building enough nuclear power stations to provide all the UK's electricity needs.

Trump has just held up a model of a B2 fighter plane and declared these are dropping the biggest bombs on Iran you’ll ever see. B2s are reportedly taking off from British bases. Keir Starmer must answer my simple question. Are these planes attacking Iran?

@UKLabour The £150 off the gas bill is being made up via general taxation instead. So will they cut services to pay the £150, or will they just increase taxes elsewhere?

The Labour Government is taking £150 off the cost of your energy bills. And we're taking the action needed to bring down bills for good by investing in homegrown energy so we don't remain at the mercy of international markets.

A seriously ill loved one currently needs carers to help him stay out of hospital and in his own home. They are all wonderful. They tell me they are paid just £12.50/hour. I have asked the private company that supplies their services what they charge the #NHS. It's £29.50/hour. This is blatant profiteering by them and piss poor management of resourses by the #NHS

An electric car battery costs about 50% of the vehicle's value. So a £40,000 car has a £20,000 battery. After just a few years the battery is worthless, and so is the vehicle. It's not worth replacing it. That's why electric cars are not selling. Fact.

One of the things that puts me off getting an EV is that most vehicles seem to achieve much less than their claimed range in road tests. I've heard owners struggling to get 200 miles from a car with a published range of 300. Do EV owners find the same drawback in practice?

I have tabled a Bill to require Parliamentary approval for the foreign use of British military bases. We must learn the lessons of the past — and stop our Prime Minister from dragging Britain into another catastrophic, illegal war.

With an Octopus Energy EV tariff, you can charge your car with 250 miles of range for £6, using cheap overnight rates of 7p/kwh. That's around 275 miles per gallon of petrol, equivalent. Why is there still a resistance to Electric Vehicles?

There is no such thing as ‘dead end courses’. But after 14 years of Tory misrule we have an underfunded university sector, and a labour market that doesn’t deliver a decent income to anyone, including many graduates. Abolish fees, the system is broken.
BBC Politics@BBCPolitics

“We’re going to stop the government funding dead end university courses” Shadow education secretary Laura Trott says her party would stop funding courses that “don’t deliver for young people” citing some creative arts courses as an example #BBCLauraK bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

Please urge the government not to appeal the court decision today that the proscription of Palestine Action was unlawful. We must uphold our centuries old tradition of the right to protest. Contact your local MP to ask them to speak out against the government proposal to appeal.
