Housing needs to be affordable and have increased supply. Here’s how we can get it without taxpayer subsidy. 1. 50 year mortgages- stop your virtue signaling. This isn’t for everyone but in fast appreciating markets it can build wealth instead of renting. I’m fine restricting them to first time buyers, buyers with 700 credit scores, or something similar. 2. Roll back building codes 30 years. Almost none of these new codes add value despite claims of “saving lives” or fire safety. Yet these things easily add 20-30% to construction costs. 3. Put a maximum timeline and cost on entitlements. Endless studies and reports add cost and risk and rarely turn up anything that wasn’t obvious anecdotally. 4. Put the human habitat first. Obscure bugs and rodents shouldn’t have any influence on housing approvals.

@shawngorham @Chazzym22 Wish I could go back and sell pest control instead of security systems. Way easier to wrap someone’s head around. “Do you want bugs, or not?”

Commerical Landscaping is a better business than Pest Contol Same recurring revenue Landscape is a much higher ticket per month Landscape has project based opportunities Landscape has repairs (sprinklers) I can keep going... but if I were deciding between pest control and Commerical maintenance, landscape wins... although the multiple is much lower than Pest Control. Why?

@Jefffeldman Unfortunately, these fanatics will not give up until they are dead. It will require troops on the ground. Hopefully Trump will get free oil after this unlike Iraq.

What’s happening in the Middle East should have ZERO impact on how much it costs me to fill up with gas or diesel. We have the domestic resources and technology to produce and refine all the oil we could ever use in the USA. Politicians are absolutely stupid for not using this war in Iran as a reason to make us truly energy independent. The environmental groups can sit down or move away… bc the next thing they’ll be marching against are cost of living increases.

@robynngarfield @cboyack If you won’t move then stop complaining. Also, are you voting for the right people in local elections every year? Gotta send a message to the liberal that ignore crime and focus on social special interests.

We've had our cars and even our house broken into a half a dozen times or so since moving back to Salt Lake City seven years ago. Last night, these goons broke the window of my son's car and stole his school backpack with two laptops in it and all his school work, notes, homework etc. @slcpd always tell us the same thing: file a report, we'll get back to you. But our neighborhood is PLAGUED with break-ins and nothing is getting better.

@follard You think it started with Zillow? I blame HGTV and those home renovation/flip shows which started way before Zillow.

Zillow has accidentally made millions of Americans think that they understand real estate development. "Wow, that new build is selling for $1.2 million, the developer / builder must be making so much money." Not so fast, my friend. Typical new development construction has about 20% margins, and many factors can erode those margins quickly. Construction risk is higher than the average American understands.

No builder has ever said their building costs have gone up due to tariffs. Stop being part of the problem. You were wrong about tariff impacts and you are wrong about how to create affordable housing. Get rid of the building codes the last 30 years and we will have safe and affordable housing overnight.

Home prices are too high. Trump's tariffs on building materials are driving up their prices. My Housing Tariff Exclusion Act ends those tariffs, so home prices will be lower. If it sounds straightforward, that's because it is.

I know we have a lot of issues in this country, but the fact this cost me $304 is one of them. My wife & I decided a long time ago that eating healthy organic foods was a high priority for our family, so we never skimp on groceries. But this should be available to everyone.

If Trump can end this in a few weeks while keeping oil below $80 then we need to get serious about a third term (joking but not really). I’m shocked it has stayed in the low 70s right now. Iran is all talk.

Why is the SAVE Act dead in the US Senate? Senator John Curtis, Utah @SenJohnCurtis He is on paper a "Republican", but in reality he was a Democrat for many years and merely ran as a Republican to get elected in Utah. He was the Mitt Romney replacement in Utah.

@Cernovich Sadly this seems to be very astute. Utah must get back to the principles that made them such a great state and economy: faith, conservatism, and small government.

@zerohedge That’s not happening. Obviously what Putin did was wrong, but he is not giving up land that has been seized. And there is zero chance of Ukraine getting back Crimea.

@OchoZaco Terrible take. You don’t have to apologize but any rational person knows the church doesn’t take Cambodian tithes to build a mall in Utah . The church spends way more in those third world countries than it takes in.

On my LDS mission in Cambodia I saw some of the most destitute people you could imagine. I taught them the gospel. They sacrificed what little money they had so the church could build a shopping mall in Utah, USA. That’s not right and I won’t apologize for that take.
Zac@OchoZaco

Your church was fined by the Securities and Exchange Commission because they hid your tithes in shell companies. Tithes that were paid by poor people. Facts over feelings.

@NewsLambert Wait, you mean the hockey stick doesnt keep going up forever? These trends are normal. Seasonality is back. Until we make a change in building codes we will probably never see a surge in supply and prices will have a firm floor in most markets.

"our teams faced lower demand and aggressive local competition in Austin, San Antonio, parts of Florida, Northern California and Colorado. We deliberately chose to hold our ground in these markets and accept lower sales volumes as we look to the spring selling season to work through our excess home inventory" - Phillippe Lord, CEO of @MeritageHomes—a giant homebuilder ranked No. 554 on the Fortune 500—said on their Jan. 29, 2026 earnings call
