@willdofficiale @EyeisBloke She would have very likely been cast in The Forsytes in late 2023 (ahead of pre-production and fittings before filming in late Spring 2024). A lot of the season 2 scripts were being written at the same time. Millie would have likely made a decision to leave Who before that point.

I’m sick of this. Millie deciding to leave after one season was NOT the drastic pivot that everyone fucking thinks it was. She took the Forsytes job (a leading lady role) and took a step back from a full time role on Who to do that.

Millie Gibson was originally meant to stay for both seasons. When that changed, RTD had to adjust his plans and introduce Belinda for Season 2 much later than intended. That wasn't the original roadmap. It was a response to changing circumstances.

@abitdickensian @EyeisBloke Lol, Belinda and the Doctor were definitely platonic, apart from the reality bending world in s2, which easily could have been Ruby. That's the point. The snow explanation was odd after the mystical build-up. No fan can prove it either way but to many the rewrites are obvious.

The snow was explained by the significance of the memory leaking out (Ruby wants to find out, makes sense she’s thinking about it all the time). The pointing is a memory +

@abitdickensian @EyeisBloke The snowfall was treated as a supernatural, universe-bending superpower. The finale chalks this up to "sheer memory and raw time intersection," The woman points at the sign, but nobody is there to see it. Belinda and Ruby were both platonic with the Doctor.

@abitdickensian @EyeisBloke Things like the figure pointing to the sign, the snowfall not really explained, the space baby stuff which became more apparent in series 2 when they tied it to Belinda instead. It's quite obvious in the s1 finale and gets more obvious in s2. But her and Belinda were both great.

She spent the entire season wanting to find her birth parents and it only makes sense that she would find them by the end of the finale and therefore want to get to know them. Lmao her departure at the end of season 1 was the most sensical thing in the world

@abitdickensian The Poppy story arc makes a lot more sense with Ruby in Belinda's role. Something clearly happened behind the scenes. The two series were filmed back to back...Varada wouldn't have been cast in such a prominent role is S1 unless there was a narrative logic for her S2 role.

@timelesschild I'm really glad someone is finally saying this. When you look at other rtd shows where he had sole control it's some of the best writing that's existed. People are jumping to conclusions saying rtd ruined doctor who when there were external factors

You don't have to love RTD2 to recognise how many factors were outside RTD's control. RTD had an original plan. But a series of circumstances outside his control forced him to pivot repeatedly. Looking at RTD2 without that context misses a huge part of the story. A thread....🧵

It does sound like the tender will be for multiple seasons so that’s very good news if that turns out to be the case. 3 seasons would be ideal but I have a feeling it’ll be 2 again. Whatever it is please plan the next era out to that and not on hope you can get more.

@whoronomy This is why I like the idea of bringing back 25 minute eps. How many crews on a ship etc, often including decent guest stars, have come and gone in a week? Makes them very forgettable compared to the classic era.

The problem I think people forget with making Doctor Who series shorter is the show is constantly a rotating cast and as a result you end up with unfleshed out companions, fleeting Doctors and not enough decent balance of adventures. The show would struggle under 6 episodes.
