@MichaelAArouet we do want people to be able to have kids though, and why are we just totalling up all their government services? mr 140k was rescued from a mountain by helicopter after an accident on their bougie activity holiday and spent a few weeks in an NHS hospital and their bills nowhere?

Something is clearly out of balance when someone earning £10k and someone earning £140k take home the same net amount. No wonder so many hard-working people and entrepreneurs are leaving the UK. Would you want to live in a country that punishes hard work and jobs creation?

@anon_opin it's going to cost a fortune to upkeep for the tourists anyway (and more specifically, for the nation). might as well do some actual work there could just move it to swansea to save on costs if that's all that mattered, but running your country from its capital is a thing

The Palace of Westminster is a ridiculous place to house our parliament. It's too small, it's falling apart, it costs a fortune to upkeep. Just move parliament elsewhere in London, hold the big ceremonial events in the palace but otherwise turn it over to tourism.

When my car wipers are at end of life, i just find another car of the same model/year and swap the wiper blades around. Haven't bought a single set of wiper blades yet.

@anon_opin yes it's some sort of scam proposed by the corrupt, that look how much value im providing for the tax payers when i'm using private money to swan about with and not public money...... no that's not a good thing, how did people get railroaded into this interpretation 😂

People get weirdly irate about MPs salaries and expenses. But by far the bigger issue is that they're allowed to have second jobs and multiple income streams. A recipe for disaster. Pay them significantly more. But no second jobs. Do the job you're elected for.

Most people don’t realise where the £180 million actually went at the A303 Stonehenge tunnel project. It wasn’t construction. It was years of: • Environmental impact assessments • Heritage & archaeological studies • Legal challenges and consultations • Design, engineering and traffic modelling • Public inquiries and revisions All before a single shovel hit the ground. This is the real problem in Britain: We don’t just waste money, we build systems that guarantee it. £180 million to build nothing.
Ben Graham tweet media

The A303 Stonehenge tunnel has been scrapped after years of planning. £180 million. Gone. Not a single mile built. Not a single benefit delivered. Just taxpayer money burned. Who is actually held accountable for this?

@Imaginaryperso_ @jared_vennett__ @NicholasTyrone no im saying mmt has created the environment where......blah and not keynsian economics. keynes talked about smoothing economic cycles by injecting state capital at periods of economic downturns and then paying it back over the period of growth, not just perpetual budget deficits

@xeode @jared_vennett__ @NicholasTyrone No, Im saying keynesian economics has created the environment where we've accrued 30 trillion in debt and now paying the interest year on year is more than the defense budget and increasinly exponentially. Its unsustainable, and MMT is the only stupid solution keynesians have.

@avidseries it's like conversation with groups of other people, which i take it you're not a fan of for similar reasons? 🤣 or do you just start talking about something you're interested in if the conversation drifts to something else or what? you have to find the people entertaining too...

I've never listened to a podcast for more than 3 or 4 minutes. I don't have the patience to listen to people ramble on while I wait for them to talk about something I might be interested in. I'm not sure there's ever been a less efficient way to transmit information.

@EconAfterDark it wasn't 'full of people' cause they gave them an hour to evacuate, hence why the camera was pointing straight there in the first place probably

The SLR camera is design perfection. Look through the same lens which will be used for the photo, body ergonomically designed to minimise shake, full control over every variable. So sad that to many people 'Camera' is just an app on a phone which feels horrible in comparison.

@ret_ward local clean energy can protect us from international fossil fuel markets if it covers all our needs and doesn't leave any that can (still) only be covered by fossil fuels which it won't for several decades still, so we need cheap low food miles oil/gas in the meantime

@CraigMurrayOrg 2 lanes gridlocked pass the same number of cars as 1 lane gridlocked. the issue is always some junction further up rather than how many cars can park in the traffic

I have a cycle lane running outside my home. I have cctv on the front of the house. Today I reviewed on fast forward 10am to 11am. Zero cycles passed along the cycle lane. This is not a trendy opinion, but I would rip up almost all Edinburgh's cycle lanes which clog the city and cause pollution from endless traffic queues.
