my friend ALWAYS tries to split the bill unfairly. we ordered food, i got fries for 435, she ordered a whole MEAL for 2870. when the bill came she goes, “let’s just split it.” split?? equally?? i had fries. you had STEAK. i told her let’s just pay for what we each ordered. she sighed and said, “that’s so complicated yaar.” complicated?? it’s literally basic math. so i pulled out my phone and calculated exactly what i owed. suddenly she got upset and said i was being cheap. cheap?? i’m being fair. you’re the one trying to make me pay for half of your expensive meal. i paid my amount. exactly. since then she’s been acting cold and posting passive-aggressive stories like “some people are so calculative.” yes. i calculate. i unfollowed her. she noticed and texted me. i left her on read. friendship ended over accurate bill splitting. and honestly? i’m at peace. 😌

In a Dutch personal holding company (BV), profits are first taxed at the corporate level (VPB): 19% up to €200k and 25.8% on profits above €200k. After this, the remaining funds stay inside the BV. Distributing them to you as the owner triggers a second tax event in Box 2: 24.5% up to ~€69k and 31% above that. In addition, a director-shareholder (DGA) is required to pay themselves a minimum gross salary of €58k. The tax authorities may require a higher salary if profits or market benchmarks justify it, although no hard formula exists. This salary is taxed progressively at ~36% to 49.5% before net payout. On top of the gross salary, the company pays ~7–8% in employer payroll taxes, and you should factor in €2–3k per year for accounting, payroll, and compliance costs. All in all, this is the sucker’s setup for Dutch investors. The rational move is to get out before these rules go into effect and before the notorious five-year exit tail tax kicks in. There’s a very real chance this gets dragged forward earlier than 2028 to minimize the short term capital drain.
