Opposition leader Douglas Mwonzora has reported that violence broke out at an MDC Women's Assembly event in Bulawayo where members were pelted with stones.
"Some hired thugs are currently attacking the MDC Women Assembly meeting at the Provincial Offices in Bulawayo. The women are commemorating the International women's day. The attackers made it clear that they are against the party stance on Amendment 3.
"The police are standing and watching while thugs are pelting members of the MDC Women's Assembly with stones at a meeting in Bulawayo. The MDC Women's Assemby are commemorating the International Women's Day. This is retribution for our stance on 2030 agenda," wrote Mwonzora on X.

The global political agreement (GPA) negotiations were very long and tedious. Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF considered the MDC-T and MDC-Ncube as so-called puppet Western funded political parties whose sole purpose was to remove Zanu-PF from power and effect regime change. His electoral defeat at the hands of Morgan Tsvangirai obviously pained him a lot and dented his pride and ego. That's why he proceeded with the farcical Presidential election runoff on June 27, 2008 after the withdrawal of Morgan Tsvangirai. All right-thinking people knew that June 27 was a huge farce. It was really pointless to proceed with a one man Presidential race in those circumstances.
The negotiations lasted several months culminating in the consummation of the GPA in September 2008 at a lavish ceremony that was held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). To all intentions and purposes, the GPA was actually a very good deal for Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF because he retained the Presidency. He was supposed to share power with Morgan Tsvangirai as the Prime Minister. In reality, however, power was never shared since Robert Mugabe remained all powerful and domineering. Mugabe was a very sly and wily political operator. During the GNU era, he carefully studied Morgan Tsvangirai and he managed to run rings around him and thus, outwit him on the political chess board. Tsvangirai was supposed to chair the Council of Ministers and Mugabe was chairing Cabinet according to the GPA agreement. It was pretty obvious that real executive power lay in Cabinet and not in the Council of Ministers. In reality, therefore, Morgan Tsvangirai had very little executive power in the GNU. Real executive power was vested in Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF. There is a school of thought that propagates that it was Thabo Mbeki, another sly political operator, who styled the GPA in such a way that Mugabe and Zanu-PF would virtually be the real holders of executive power while the two MDC factions were mere junior partners ; political bridesmaids if one may say. It also appeared that Thabo Mbeki didn't have much respect for Morgan Tsvangirai. I'm absolutely convinced that Mbeki viewed and considered Tsvangirai to be a Western puppet.
The 7th Parliament of Zimbabwe only became operational after the consummation of the GPA in September 2008. In between March and September 2008, there was very little, if any, Parliamentary activity. During that period, there was no Cabinet in place. A new Cabinet was only sworn into office after the signing of the GPA in September 2008. The GPA was a Thabo Mbeki production. It was mastered, engineered and produced by Thabo Mbeki. He made certain that Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF remained the senior partner in the new political set-up. There was absolutely no doubt about that.
I didn't make into Cabinet when Morgan Tsvangirai nominated people into the new Cabinet in September 2008. I was selected to be the MDC-T chief whip in the Senate. Innocent Gonese was the chief whip in the National Assembly. I was also appointed chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Committee (PLC), a very powerful committee of Parliament that analyses and scrutinises all bills and statutory instruments before they are finally passed into law. I was also a member of the Standing Rules and Orders Committee of Parliament. As such, my plate was full and I was perfectly happy with that arrangement.

@Chris_cd_ You idiot! Why are you supporting the brutalisation of women who were carrying on with their lawful activity of commemorating the International Women's Day. That is evil.
English

@DMwonzora But you supported Amendment 2 the precursor to 3, makazokonana papi when you aided Malaba' term extension which guaranteed Mnangagwa's own term extension? Are you not just demanding your dues for work done?

@ProfJNMoyo @SANDEJAQ @Dr_JAMavedzenge In other words, the Constitutional Court has already settled this matter.
English

@SANDEJAQ @Dr_JAMavedzenge What did I say and where Counsel? It would help if you are specific, to help me follow the discussion. Meanwhile, there's no provision in the Constitution that specifically LIMITS the President to a term of five years. None!
English

Regarding extending the term of office of the President of Zimbabwe, this is what the Constitutional Court has already said:
“ By way of contrast, the Constitution abounds with a myriad of provisions that unquestionably constitute specific term limit provisions within the parameters of s 328. First and foremost, there is s 95(2) which expressly stipulates that the term of office of the President is 5 years and coterminous with the life of Parliament…
As is self-evident, the tenure of all of the aforementioned public offices is undoubtedly subject to a specific “term-limit provision” within the meaning of s 328(1). Consequently, an amendment to any such provision, the effect of which is to extend the length of time that a person may hold or occupy the public office in question, falls squarely within the ambit of s 328(7). Therefore, by dint of the restriction imposed by s 328(7), such amendment does not apply in relation to any person who held or occupied that office, or an equivalent office, at any time before the amendment came into force and effect.”

The issue of a REFERENDUM was properly & thoroughly addressed by a PROMINENT LAWYER last year. Here is the opinion written Mr Tawanda Nyambirai. Read for yourself @Mavhure so u won’t wukura without information 😅
English

@FManyemba43796 @ProfJNMoyo @SANDEJAQ @Dr_JAMavedzenge The answer to your question Sir lies in the definition of term limit provision in the definition part of section 328. Note that in this section we dont use "term" but " length of time". Where length of time is involved s328(7) applies.
English

@ProfJNMoyo @SANDEJAQ @Dr_JAMavedzenge Here is the summary for easy of reference :
The question is amendment of tenure the amendment of term limit?

1. The CCC caucus meeting held on 12/02/2026 at Parliament discussed many issues, including the legislative agenda for the year. It is in this spirit that I attended.
2.Following the meeting, a statement was issued indicating broad support for the amendments, including Amendment No. 3, which seeks to extend the parliamentary and presidential term limits to 2030.
3.I want to categorically, without contradiction or ambiguity, make it clear that I, Richard Tsvangirayi, do not support this particular amendment, which seeks to extend the term limits by about two years. This position has been consistent.
4. I have always said: if your political party is providing public goods and services effectively, why should you be afraid to go to an election? If you have the support of the people, you should not fear the accountability that comes with an election. I have served the people of Norton with all my heart, despite operating in a very challenging political environment. That is why I can walk freely in the streets of Katanga, knowing I have wronged no one. I am not afraid of accountability. My conscience is clear.
5. As Members of Parliament, when we speak in Parliament, we do not communicate our personal views; we communicate the views of the sons and daughters who put their trust in us to represent them. To communicate a personal position without consulting those who elected us is a betrayal of that trust. Hence, I will consult the people of Norton when the Bill comes out.
6. I have attended meetings hosted by Professor Welshman Ncube, and in December, I attended a dinner hosted by President Nelson Chamisa. Today, 14/02/2026, I was invited to a public lecture at MRT House by the MDC about my father—may his soul rest in peace. If it were not for other commitments, I would have attended. The point I want to make is this: there is nothing new or surprising about me attending meetings. Attending such meetings does not mean that I agree with every position that emerges from them.
Hon. Richard Tsvangirayi, MP
End!

@mangwiron @RTsvangirayi Please show the world where I voted.
English

@DMwonzora @RTsvangirayi Yet you voted to mutilate the Constitution last time they descrated the Constitution.
Why does it sound like sour grapes now? Am sure if you had been in Parly chances are you would be singing a different song?
English

@J_Pineau @RTsvangirayi Sir/ Madam, Zanu PF was given 2/3 majority in Parliament by you guys. It was supported in the Delimitation case by you guys. It is being supported in the 2030 agenda by you guys. We will and have always defended our constitution.
English

@DMwonzora @RTsvangirayi The constitution and Douglas Mwonzora in one statement is laughable. You are an enabler, you gave Zanupf a life line
English

@adv_fulcrum Apa wataurawo apa mfanha wangu. That is the pith of the whole matter. Obrigado. Meet you in the fields!
English

Professor Madhuku is a wise man, and today he outdid himself. He shared this lore: in the rural areas there comes a time when everyone knows, "kuti yave nguva yekurima." The young and the old—maimed and whole, lazy and diligent—all flock to the fields. You won't find anyone at home; you won't find people out seeking company; everyone's hand is on the plough. If you go to the homesteads you will find them empty because "yave nguva yekurima." If someone visits you in the fields, you know something important has happened. There’s no monkeying around during that time. No football. No njuga. You don't need a community leader to inspire action; when the time comes, you simply attend to the task at hand.
Good people; with the contemplated constitutional amendment, yave nguva yekurima.

English

@KMutisi The very case you have qouted states that the extension of the presidential term provided in section 95 of the constitution requires a referendum! So the Constitutional Court itself has settled this issue Sir.
English

Can ED Benefit from the TERM EXTENSION?????
Lots of people are saying the Term Extension needs a Referendum & that ED cannot benefit from it…
Well, this issue WAS SETTLED in the Marx Mupungu Vs Minister of Justice & Legal Affairs & Others. It’s a SETTLED MATTER, nothing to contest there.
The Court made it clear that extending term length is not the same as Changing term limits… The TWO TERMS remain.
So Zimbabweans being misled by Social Media Lawyers & Opposition Lawyers are wasting their emotions on a settled matter.
Amendment 3 will happen without a referendum.
And ED, if he chooses, can benefit from it.
By the way, you can’t even take ED to court for it UNTIL after August 2028. So the issue of ED benefiting doesn’t arise now, he may choose to not go beyond 2028, it’s up to him…
It is therefore a waste of emotions to get angry that ED is overstaying, u don’t know that and u have no evidence of that.
