Within a minute of me tweeting this out, Hendrickson signed with Baltimore. After yesterday’s snafu with Calcatera, I think the morale of the story here is that I really should just stop tweeting.

I love comp picks as much as anyone, but I think we are taking the love too far. If the choice is between one of the elite edge rushers in the NFL in Trey Hendrickson or a third round comp pick (which will be at the end of the third round), I’m taking the edge rusher every time.

I get the anxiousness. The Eagles are casting a wide net and are clearly taking their time. A lot of times they use interviews as a way to gather information and hear new ideas.

Would be a big loss, but employing good coaches is a privilege and fresh blood in coordinator roles is crucial to advancing the game forward and evolving. CP is probably the best first-time DC candidate and will be an asset wherever he ends up. You’ll have a hard time finding someone who works harder to put his guys in position to execute fundamentals. I’ve spent way too much time watching and charting the Eagles defense these last two years, but a big reason for that was just for the coverage mechanics and how they played. Everything from key reads, route distribution, pre-snap synchronization, leverage maintenance, pattern recognition, etc., on the back end is streamlined to the max. I don’t look forward to watching 2x the number of snaps each week, but beggars can’t be choosers. If you want to keep your assistants in the building, sucking is the only way.
