Jamie Varley, a high school teacher playing victim in his police interview.
He raped and murdered Preston Davey after adopting him with his partner John McGowan.
Varley denies murder, manslaughter, two counts of assault by penetration, five counts of cruelty to a child, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault of a child, 13 counts of taking indecent photos or videos of a child, one of distributing an indecent photo of a child, to his co-accused, and one of making an indecent photo.
McGowan-Fazakerley denies allowing the death of a child, three counts of child cruelty and one count of the sexual assault of a child.

Two men "adopted" a baby.
"A post mortem examination identified more than 30 external bruises, as well as internal bruising to his mouth and throat, internal bruising to his anus, bowel and bladder, lacerations to his anorectum, and a perforated bowel."
"One medical expert gave evidence that a bruise on the baby’s bottom appeared to be a human bite mark."
Think what this poor baby went through. The men who did this should be put to death.
Men should not be able to buy babies. I know that this will cause some anguish to good men who have good intentions, but it's necessary to prevent this happening. This cannot happen again.

Boyfriend of teacher accused of murdering baby they were adopting told police hospital scene ‘felt like I was in a soap’
Jamie Varley, 37, a former secondary school teacher, and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, had Preston Davey, 13 months, placed with them for adoption in April 2023 after passing a full vetting process.
On 27 July 2023 Preston collapsed at their Blackpool home after vomiting and going limp. He was rushed to hospital in cardiac arrest and could not be saved.
Varley is accused of sexually abusing the toddler and then killing him. A post-mortem found more than 40 separate injuries, including internal throat damage consistent with sexual assault.
In police interviews played in court, McGowan-Fazakerley described arriving at A&E as “hell” and said the whole scene “felt like I was in a soap”.
He told officers Varley was “running around like a headless chicken” screaming it was all his fault while medics fought to save the baby.
Both men deny all charges. The trial continues at Preston Crown Court.

I’ve just been checked over by an ambulance after a group of foreign lads came up behind me while I was doing a debate stand, dragged me to the ground, and kicked and punched me. I passed out halfway through and don’t remember everything that happened. From what I can recall, it started while I was sitting down, and they took some of my equipment during the assault. The police arrived about five minutes after the assault, recovering as much as they could. One of my cameras exploded when they tried to seize it, or steal it. Instead of running away with it, they destroyed it, causing the battery to explode. However, I have the SD card, and we'll be checking whether the footage is still there so they can identify what actually happened. Members from Stand Up to Racism were counter-protesting, and they were egging them on and filming it. The police did nothing to stop the counter-protesters or retrieve the footage to see what actually happened. I’ll be going to the hospital now, as I have a cut and a number of marks on my neck, bruises on my face and the top of my head, and cuts running down my back.

Horrific details are emerging from Preston Crown Court in the UK, where former teacher Jamie Varley (37) and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley (32) are on trial for the murder and severe abuse of their 13-month-old adoptive son, Preston Davey.
While the shocking details circulating online about the baby's 40 injuries, sexual abuse charges, and the father's confession of "dark thoughts" are fully accurate, online rumors contain one major factual error.
The suspect did not confess his thoughts of suffocating the baby to a social worker. Prosecution records show he sent those messages to a personal friend, who unfortunately did not alert authorities before the tragedy.
The local adoption agency was unaware of the texts.
The trial resumed in mid-May 2026 as prosecutors present extensive video evidence recovered from the suspects' phones.
Justice for baby Preston is currently being determined in court.
