I had a productive meeting today with Prime Minister Mark Carney @MarkJCarney and British Columbia Premier David Eby @Dave_Eby. We discussed several areas of shared priority, including electricity, interties, the TMX expansion, LNG, and other key projects. We also addressed key elements of the Alberta–Ottawa energy agreement, including the proposed new oil pipeline to Asian markets via our west coast. I underscored Alberta’s commitment to keep British Columbia informed of any progress related to the project, ensure British Columbians benefit from such a project as well as ongoing positive engagement with First Nations. It was a very good discussion and I’m looking forward to continuing working with British Columbia on a comprehensive package of projects that will benefit both of our provinces and the entire country.

Today I had the opportunity to take the Hayabusa high speed train from Tokyo to Sapporo. Topping out at 320 km/h, Shinkansen trains like these allow both locals and tourists to cross the country in just hours. If Alberta had one we could get between Calgary and Edmonton in less than an hour! We are currently developing a Passenger Rail Master Plan for the province. If Alberta's oil and gas industry was a "global leader", as Ms. Smith claims here, her government wouldn't have to hide their emissions data from their federal counterparts. The more she protests against an emissions cap, the more she confirms its absolute necessity.
