Our Trenton snow observer photographed these yesterday... inverse snow tracks! The snow was walked in when it was changing to sleet (ice pellets) back on January 25th, then the footprints filled up with sleet, and now the softer snow around them is melting faster than the sleet.

My friends were in Jamaica at Sandals South in White House and rode out Hurricane Melissa. They said the buildings held up and everyone in their group was ok. Here are some of the images from the resort.

Warm gusty winds. Well above norms for an hourly snapshot in time. As per the long haul it offers no standing. Just a pre-frontal fetch doing what it does best under an upper level ridge.

This is it! Closest approach from #HurricaneErin to the OBX. About 200 mi offshore. NC 12 closed south of Pea Island. Waves at Oregon Inlet 15 ft. No rain here, just tropical storm force wind!

This is not the AIFS initialization for 00z 8/20. This is a 330hr forecast from 06z 8/6! Yes, I picked the best 200+ hour forecast, but every one of those runs had a hurricane somewhere domain below valid on 00z 8/20. NHC's 00z 8/20 pressure: 959mb. Image from @TropicalTidbits

@GregPostel SASCWATCH!!!
Hurricane Hunters@53rdWRS

The Surface Atmosphere Sea Coupling: WAves, Turbulence, Currents, and Hurricanes (SASCWATCH) Project is breaking new ground in hurricane science! By combining ocean buoys, NOAA flyovers, and our #HurricaneHunters, researchers are studying how waves, currents, and turbulence exchange heat, moisture, and energy between the ocean and atmosphere during extreme storms. The goal? To improve hurricane forecasts and better understand how tropical cyclones grow and intensify—keeping communities safer. #HurricaneScience #SASCWATCH #53WRS #HurricaneHunters #NOAA
