@internetarchive So many commenters over on the blog with nothing to say but "hurry up" or "tell me how soon." They don't get that you're providing these services for FREE and have limited resources and staff. Every minute you spend engaging with them comes out of time fixing stuff.

@smccorristine @ConversationUK With respect to George Cruikshank, this issue was first raised much earlier than 1863, by the 1st-century Chinese philosopher Wang Chong: "Ghosts are considered to be the vital spirits of the dead. If this were really the case, people seeing ghosts ought to see ...

@straczynski Plus the Latin in the quoted phrase is "Carthago," not "Carthagio," and it's from Cato, not Cicero.

Since it's Cartagia, not Carthagio, the answer is no. Though phonetically it's a slight nod to Caligula.
Marc Espie@espie_openbsd

@straczynski I might be stupid, but... did you choose emperor Carthagio's name just because of the name ? Just rewatched that part and "delenda est carthagio" (from Cicero) just keeps popping into my head. Can't believe I missed it during the previous watches

@_____newt @rechelon Reminds me of Bookchin ranting against the "lifestyle anarchists" or, mutatis mutandis, Rothbard ranting against the "luftmenschen."

.@RepWalberg’s comments evince an utter indifference to human suffering. The people of Gaza are our fellow human beings—many of them children trapped in horrific circumstances beyond their individual control. For him to suggest that hundreds of thousands of innocent Palestinians should be obliterated, including my own relatives sheltering at an Orthodox Christian church, is reprehensible and indefensible.

At least 32. A few I'm not sure about. The only ones I definitely haven't tried are squirrel, brains, and rattlesnake (and I have had a *different* sort of snake).

@notjessewalker "especially if the speaker uses the phrase 'here's the thing.'" What if they're introducing Ben Grimm? Or a movie by Howard Hawks or John Carpenter?

TikTok is at its best when it involves primitive surrealism, one-man sketch comedy, sea shanties, or Vine-style micro-movies. It's at its worst when it involves someone speaking earnestly to a camera, especially if the speaker uses the phrase "here's the thing."

@ULTRA_MAJESTY How racist do you have to be to treat a terrific 2nd Amendment victory as a defeat because it treats a human right as applying to all humans and not just your gang?

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 - Federal Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman has ruled that illegals have the right to bear arms. They want to strip us all of our rights and give those rights to illegals. Don't think for a minute that the government won't try to use illegal immigrants against Americans one day; that is their plan. This is Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman's work number. (312) 435-6885

I didn't hear that story, but having heard others, I'm not surprised. There were only 2-3 people there who knew what they were doing.
Lang Thompson@funhousejournal

@straczynski Not sure if you heard this story but I had friends working at Turner when B5 started there. They told me about a meeting where a promo was shown that had the cast beaming down to a planet. Fortunately some people knew that was wrong & the promo never aired.

@rechelon But nothing can be astonishingly stupid. Because if determinism is true, the stupidity was foreseeable all along and so no one should be astonished. And if determinism is false, then nothing can be astonishing, because nothing can *make* you astonished without your consent. Boom.

This is *astonishingly* stupid. Stoned undergrad interrupting a 101 philosophy class on the first day bad. Words cannot express how absolutely furious it continually makes me that this man and his ilk tried to wrap himself in the legacy of the realists in the science wars.

@straczynski I was today old when I learnt this! "A coyote's fastest sprinting speed is 64 km/h (40 mph),[26] which is twice that of a roadrunner's at 32 km/h (20 mph)." I feel I've been lied to all my life !! (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadrunne…)
