@2SevernBridges This is due to urgent safety inspections of lighting columns on the bridge, which have identified an immediate risk.
Testing found several columns in need of immediate removal due to risk of collapse.
2/3
2 lanes (of 3) are closed on the #M4#PrinceofWalesBridge in both directions to enable emergency repairs to lighting columns to take place
Lane closures are expected to remain in place into tomorrow afternoon, please allow extra journey times if planning to use the bridge
#M48#SevernBridge is closed in both directions due to strong winds associated with #StormBram
Diversion via the #M4#PrinceofWalesBrdge - be aware there are 2 lanes (of 3) closed currently, please allow extra journey time
@HighwaysSWEST@2SevernBridges Close the bridge to HGVs, surely that means you can keep it open in “gusty” conditions. I don’t want to make light of the dangers of the weather on the exposed bridge, but the traffic today was a joke!

@HighwaysSWEST@2SevernBridges What sort of strain does all of those cars sat on the bridge have on the cables? Could we not be cleared off down the M48 instead?
The #M48#SevernCrossing is now OPEN westbound between J1 (#Aust) and J2 (#Chepstow).
The J2 exit slip road however remains closed at this time whilst emergency services continue to work at the scene.
Allow extra time if travelling in the area this afternoon.
The #M48#SevernCrossing is CLOSED westbound between J1 (#Aust) and J2 (#Chepstow) due to a serious collision.
Emergency services are in attendance.
Diverted traffic is advised to use the #M4#PrinceOfWales crossing as an alternate route into #Wales.
@STAdoublelARD Hello Daniel, thank you for reaching out to us. Currently, the standard stream of the Tour de France does have ads but the multi-screen option will remain ad-free. Thank you, discovery+ customer support.
This weekend we were involved in the replacement of Lydney Town level crossing. My part today was working with a team of guys to walk the replacement rails from Lydney junction up to Lydney Town ready for tomorrow.. #deanforestrailway
@2SevernBridges It’s great that you want to give people regular updates on planned closures, but sending out a message saying there are “no planned closures” while the M48 is closed is a tad misleading
@STAdoublelARD@2SevernBridges They do with the up and over at the Aust and Chepstow junctions, they close it to high sided vehicles, they reduce the speed limit to 40mph and shut one of the lanes each way
@Mav_Lox@2SevernBridges There will usually be one side left open during high winds, normally the side which is more exposed to the wind, so I’d expect it to be the south side open
Good Afternoon 👋
The #M48#SevernBridge risk of high winds are forecasted throughout the afternoon and into the evening today. We will be monitoring the speeds throughout the afternoon.
The bridge remains closed at this time. Please monitor @2SevernBridges for any updates.
@campbellbri@2SevernBridges They usually close the opposite footpath which is exposed to the wind (they’d rather you get blown into the road then off the side I guess). I’ve cycled across it many times in high winds, it’s an experience. Hold onto your contact lenses!
Please note that due to increasing wind speeds, we are closing the #M48 Bridge in both directions between J1 #Aust and J2 #Chepstow please use the M4 Prince Of Wales bridge as a diversion. We will continue to monitor the speeds and re-open the bridge when safe to do so.
@ditslexicman@GlosRoads I wish more council in Gloucestershire would embrace a safer cycling infrastructure approach. I know too many people who are reluctant to replace car journeys with bicycle journeys because the roads in the Forest of Dean are far too dangerous
@GlosRoads So how much congestion will this create - it looks load of nonsense. Talking of nonsense who are those people walking around with red waistcoats. I never see them doing anything, rarely see them on London Road! Do they have the power of arrest or are they cheap like a PCSO?
We would like to say thank you to all residents and stakeholders who attended our public share events at Guildhall last week and shared their views on Gloucester City Centre Cycle Spine proposals. You can still submit your feedback online here orlo.uk/D2cdc
@2SevernBridges As wind speeds are predicted to fall later this afternoon, do you anticipate that the M48 bridge will be reopened in time for rush hour?
