This is truly insane, and it should be front page news across America.  Denmark secretly deployed soldiers to Greenland prepared to blow up airport runways to stop a U.S. invasion. They brought blood supplies to treat the wounded. France, Germany, Norway, and Sweden quietly coordinated against us. This was not a drill. This was our closest allies preparing to fight Americans. Let that sink in. NATO allies. Countries whose soldiers have fought and died alongside ours for decades. They looked at this president and decided they had to prepare for the worst. Fewer allies does not make America great. It makes us more isolated, more vulnerable, and it hands Russia and China exactly what they have always wanted: an America abandoned by its friends. The American people deserve to know how badly this president has damaged our standing in the world.  bbc.com/news/articles/…

@TeamTalaricoHQ @AnimalsRockOn @jamestalarico This. The GOP uses Christianity as a shield to do terrible and cruel things. They have gotten away with much of it by claiming it’s okay, they’re Christian’s. Even as they unflinchingly support the worst people and policies.

Q: Why do so many on the Christian right seem obsessed with @jamestalarico? Journalist: The kind of Christianity he’s espousing is a threat to the cultural monopoly that the GOP wants to project over Christianity. They want to say that they have ownership of Christianity, and for someone like him to stand up and take it back is scary for them. The Christianity I grew up with bears no resemblance to what the GOP and MAGA are putting forward right now.

Awww, the pathological liar Angela Mollard didn't like the fact that #PrinceHarry and #Meghan's spokesperson put an end to her money-making scheme; all her lying self could respond with was: "Why do #HarryAndMeghan need to respond to everything?" Harry and Meghan don't....

@thedailybeast Nope nope nope. They are trying to split up Harry and Meghan. Harry and Meghan have a beautiful family in the best home he's ever had. Given time, Diana would likely have left too and she would be with us today if she had.

@JustinWStapley Trumpism tore the mask off evangelicals. Their support of Trump made it undeniable. In fact, didn't Ken Starr identify as an evangelical at one time? Remember his obsession with Clinton? Isn't he in the Epstein files? Trump has simply exposed who conservatives are.

I'm the first to admit that an intense cult of personality now exists around Donald Trump. But a lot of folks who talk a lot about this fact fail to consider the connotations, because they also assert either that Trumpian populism has revealed what conservatism always was or that Trumpism has completely and wholly unmoored most conservatives from their beliefs and wrought a true and thorough ideological shift. But that is not the nature of cults of personality. The hallmark of such a thing is cognitive dissonance, of the arrest of self-awareness, of believing that this person, this moment, justifies temporarily setting aside inhibitions and, making exceptions to the norms of values, ideals, and behaviors. Far too many detractors of Trumpism fail to recognize that by saying MAGA is a cult of personality is to also say that Trump's followers still hold to their pre-Trump beliefs and values...and can be brought back to them under the right circumstances.

@RoyalReporter @keensquirrel The problem is all the British media spent so many years attacking Harry and Meghan, it's almost impossible to undo it. And that was always the point Harry was making. He saw it done to his mother and now Harry himself and Meghan. It's too bad but you were a part of it.

@GiancarloSopo @BishopBarron Yes. Grace, alone and by himself, meets Rocky, leans into sacrifice, and they save the world(s). Christ (the rock) savior of the world, through grace alone. Seems awful familiar!

Like @BishopBarron points out, Project Hail Mary is drenched in Christian imagery. A man named Grace inhabits the Hail Mary. "Hail Mary, full of Grace..." That's not an accident. Wonderful film.

Bishop Robert Barron@BishopBarron

I just saw the much talked about film “Project Hail Mary.” It's very entertaining and uplifting and features a fine performance from Ryan Gosling. But what most intrigued me were the powerful Christian themes at play in it. The title, of course, refers to the Hail Mary pass in football, since the adventure undertaken is a fairly desperate attempt to save the planet. But it also becomes eminently clear that the reference is not just to football but to the Blessed Mother herself, for the Gosling character is undoubtedly a Christ-figure. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but it involves a willingness to sacrifice one's life utterly in order to deliver the entire human race from disaster. It is, of course, no accident that Gosling's character is called Ryland Grace, for throughout the movie, his presence and actions constitute undeserved favor to others. A particularly intriguing character in the film is a sober German scientist who relentlessly presses Grace to make the supreme sacrifice, even when he is unwilling. She represented for me the great moral demand that presses upon us throughout our lives, continually summoning us to self-gift. A last observation: Jesus had a second in command whom he called Peter (the Rock); Ryland Grace has a very unusual sidekick whom he calls “Rocky.” I'll leave it at that. I know lots of people say that Christianity is in irreversible decline and that we are inhabiting, at least in the West, a post-Christian society. I'm not so sure. Like it or not, we remain a Christ-haunted culture—and a film like “Project Hail Mary” makes this clear.

@GiancarloSopo @EWErickson @BishopBarron And like Trump inviting the men’s Olympic hockey team to the SOTU, trying to claim PHM as a “win” for conservatives when one has nothing to do with the other. PHM references a last ditch effort. Rocky is an alien. “Christians” would have had him deported

A generation ago, nobody had to explain why a film about sacrifice and existential stakes might carry Christian resonance. That was just interpretation and common culture. But the film doesn't require interpretative gymnastics to get there. The ship is called the Hail Mary. The hero is named Grace. The mission commander, when asked if she believes in God, says "It's better than the alternative" and the film leaves it there, without dismissal. I wrote a full review if you're interested. My argument isn't that PHM is a Christian film. It's that it's a film saturated in Christian memory, whether the filmmakers intended all of it or not. Barron is right: we remain a Christ-haunted culture whether we realize it or not. nationalreview.com/corner/project…

@GiancarloSopo @EWErickson @BishopBarron Trying to make a fun space movie “Christian” is an obvious effort to claim popular culture is religious. It’s a great movie and there are zero religious references in it. It’s not like Rocky was reading the Bible.
