@Jonathan_A_Hand @Ecnerwal23 Again, that’s their legal position right now. Everything that has gone on before the court ruling was always against federal law. But it appears based on the feelings of some that violating the law was perfectly fine when no one was getting paid. Doesn’t that seem odd?

@Jonathan_A_Hand @Ecnerwal23 To have a contract, you have be considered an employee. The NCAA doesn’t want that. Full stop. That’s the whole battle right now with them in Congress. The NCAA doesn’t consider their sports to be a business, just a fun activity that happens to make billions.

I went to 4 schools in 4 years and damn sure none of them were paying me to go there All this to say I have ZERO problems with the transfer portal and young men and women taking advantage of their opportunity to get paid a bunch of money Sounds more like the fans have the issue

@Jonathan_A_Hand @Ecnerwal23 Why should they “not be able” to transfer? The colleges/universities consider this to be “amateur sports.” Essentially, these are students involved in an extracurricular activity no different than joining the dance team. That’s their legal position in court.

They should absolutely not be able to transfer to 4 different schools in 4 years though that’s over the top. I’m all for a 1 time transfer just because and an additional transfer if a coach quits or gets fired or some other bizarre circumstance. I’m also all for dudes getting paid give them contracts pay them what they want, but they have to be held to their contract. But my opinion, the pendulum has swung way too far with dudes Going to four different schools in four years. You don’t even see that in pro sports.

@jaimemaggio Definitely a Raft-ism that’s been grandfathered in. But I don’t think the editors will allow you Jamie to use that one on the air. 🤣

@SamGannon87 The blueprint was there to steal it tonight. Had to play the perfect game to do it. Just couldn’t make enough shots to put it all together.

Great season for UConn but they were a bit outmatched tonight. Had their opportunities. Good for the Wolverines.

@schadjoe And folks are still complaining about that. It’s as, if the tip isn’t 8:10 PM, any other time is too long. The algorithm has been putting this complaint out there today as if this hasn’t been the case for over 4 1/2 decades and just showed up this year.

@dougmchone @AndrewBrandt To do what you are asking, colleges would have to label them employees. They don’t want to do that. Never have. Full stop. The schools consider their sports an “extracurricular activity” that happens to make billions. Once that is the position, everything else after is a wrap.

@AndrewBrandt "Student" athletes. Universities should be able to sign them to multi-year contracts and trade them.

Hear the narrative that collective bargaining will "fix" college sports. But bargaining between who? NCAA? Conferences? Schools? Football? Basketball? Women’s sports? Olympic sports? All 300 Division 1 schools? Public universities? Private? States that don't allow it? Reality.

@BrightAnalysisx @JackMac I’m hoping that is not the legal defense you would make in court as to why things should now be reversed, because that one is dead on arrival.

@JackMac Fair point athletes should get paid their current market value. But the real issue is many mid-tier players chasing big NIL cash are skipping real degrees and life skills, setting themselves up for a brutal reality check post-eligibility.

@chibbs_1 How much should they be paid for it to be “in hand?” No one has been to provide a successful legal reason why their income should be capped that doesn’t violate federal law. The market has set the price. And it’s clear the market values them as such.

It is so frustrating is that when UConn wins, it’s because “the other team played bad” “Duke choked” “Illinois missed shots they shouldn’t have” No UConn WON. Because UConn was better. The better coach. The better team There’s nothing fluky about it. Credit the champs
𝕮𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖔𝖗 𝕻𝖎𝖑𝖘@TheConnorPils

“Underwood just got out-coached tonight” Have you considered Illinois just…missed shots they normally make? Hurley is a great coach but let’s not act like if even half of these go down UConn doesn’t go home. Sometimes the shots just don’t fall.
