What’s even crazier is that every layer of computing is an illusion built on top of the previous one. At the bottom it’s just electrons moving through silicon. On top of that we invented transistors, then logic gates, then assembly, then programming languages, then operating systems, then applications, then entire digital economies. Each layer hides the raw physics underneath so the next generation can build something even more complex. Civilization is basically a tower of abstractions sitting on top of sand and electricity.

dude computers are actually so fucking insane when you really think about it. we literally figured out how to write some fake-ass rules called code and somehow convinced rocks to follow them. like actual rocks. sand, melted, purified, carved into tiny pathways where electricity just flows in patterns. that’s it. that’s the whole magic. and yet from that we get operating systems, compilers, kernels, networks, distributed systems, machine learning models, entire virtual worlds running inside other virtual worlds. billions of tiny electrical decisions per second, all because we defined some abstract logic. humans basically invented a language of instructions and taught matter itself to execute it.

@modernTman Say hello to the ghost of Jim Gober for me. Reading his autobiography right now, all centered around the panhandle. Great book, & there's a lot of wisdom in it. Appreciated your message and am looking forward to seeing what the beef.com initiative is all about.

Standing on a brick road in Amarillo, Texas. Rail line behind me — dead end, not used anymore. But Amarillo is very much alive. And it’s changing. This city was once a global marketing hub for cattle ranching. Every highway, every byway, every marker in this town tells that story. My hometown is just outside — Canyon, Texas. Born into the belly of the beast. Cattlemen, ranchers, operators, farmers. Close to the land, close to livestock, trying to make money and save something worth saving. We don’t have to ask permission to feed our children. We don’t have to ask the government either. We have a better business model. That’s why I secured Beef.com. It cost what it cost. It’s an asset — and it’s going to speak to this world. From day one: this is the Great American Health Initiative, led by the Great American Rancher. A modern day cattle drive. We live in a digital world now, and these devices in our hands are communication weapons. Use them like it. The war isn’t over there. For a lot of people, it’s right here at home. It’s the war within. So take a pause. Pull up by the bootstraps. Quit pointing fingers. Remember we’re in control. This has always been a collaboration. An invitation. Come through our gates at Beef.com. Eat beef, keep slim. I AM TEXAS SLIM— ARE YOU? @beefinitiative @dalebrisby

@LeanneMac Have experienced similar. Asking copilot to sort lists of words in order of length/alphabetic was atrocious. Would have saved more time doing it manually. I finally asked it: do you not know how to count?

Maybe it's just me but I really feel like the child in this book when it comes to AI and everyone else is the townsfolk. 70% of the time I use it it can't even do simple tasks, like counting the letters of words*, but people will tell you they're running their whole business on it. *granted, it's good for code

As I often do when I see a domain name change hands, I asked my friend Andrew Miller about Green.com to see if he was aware of a sale. Andrew told me "ATM Holdings oversaw a win-win transaction for the buyer and seller."
Elliot Silver@DInvesting

Green.com, which has been owned by IAC and registered at MarkMonitor, is now registered under Whois privacy at MarkMonitor. The domain name resolves to a landing page with a logo for a "stealth mode" neobank startup called Splash. It looks like that startup uses Splash.cash. Spotted via @DomainTools Registrant Monitor tool.

@3xHarrison @joeroganhq @grok Good point. Cowboys that lived and worked out on the range in the old west sometimes ate bacon for months on end, basically living on biscuits and bacon. I doubt there is anything inherently wrong with it.

According to press releases from 2021, Outcome Health had merged with PatientPoint, & that's a good indication they may have been open to divesting of their valuable domain asset, & likely did. Domain bloggers, I won't tag you here, but maybe a story to pursue.

The domain Outcome.com *may* have recently sold. It wasn't resolving as of earlier this year, but updated as recently as 2/26, name servers have switched to cloudflare & is now a live site. Last archive, org record shows it forwarding to Outcome Health in 2019.

And that may just mean, like a lot of things, what we imagine something to be isn't what it is.

Just found myself wondering about the Garden of Eden, since constant comfort is basically a death sentence. The body responds positively to extremes of heat/cold, deprivation, starvation, HIIT, etc, all of which make it run cleaner, stronger & more robust. Just a passing thought.

Not domain related, but what's your top 3 favorite candy? For me, it's: Peanut M&Ms Payday Ferrero Rocher I don't eat much candy, but when I do it's usually one of those. Twizzlers comes in a close fourth.

@darpanmunjal I support the spirit of innovation, but STR is only really a good metric for "inventory", and shouldn't be a focus for high-end names. If comps act as anchors to sales that can move the market (e.g. wisdom .ai, bot .ai) then it's like a falling tide that lowers all ships.

When buyers consider a premium domain, one of the first questions is: "How do I know if this price is reasonable?" So we are A/B testing something new on Atom. Buyers can now click Comparable Sales on the landing page to see similar domains that sold on our marketplace within a comparable price range. The goal is simple: give buyers more confidence around pricing. We will run the test for a few months and see how it impacts STR.

@cryptodude999 Wow, what a window into the recent past. I cautiously supported the lockdowns at first, until "2 weeks to flatten the curve" became 2 more, & 2 more... but I later owned my stupidity & openly apologized to my FB friends. Wonder how many of these people ever did. Bet few to none.

COVID was a crime against humanity. Pharma companies profited billions. Governments solidified their power. Thousands of small businesses had to close because they couldn't outlast the quarantines. Old people who needed social interaction were locked into their own homes. Millions are now regretting getting vaxxed. Yet when I approached it with skepticism, check the hate I received from these comments. NPCs will do NPC things. Never hesitate on speaking your own truth.
the dude@cryptodude999

So the whole world is going under quarantine for 10.000 deaths worldwide? Did you know that in US alone over 600k people lost their lives to heart diseases at 2017? Something smells fishy ..

@Holden_Culotta There is an ancient idea that spirits or deities can be invoked into inanimate objects, I believe it's known as theurgy. They weren't just worshiping idols of wood or stone, they really thought they could entrap these demons inside them and exploit their power.

Tim Dillon: Peter Thiel and Sam Altman are summoning an ancient Sumerian demon with AI “It’s a demonic force that’s going to take form through artificial intelligence.” “These people believe they’re communicating with some ancient Sumerian deity.” “I have sources on this.” “In their minds … if China unleashes the AI demon before we unleash our American AI demon … then that demon will enslave the world and they’ll make all the money and they’ll have all the geopolitical leverage.” “So in this AI arms race, the US and China are both racing to give birth to an ancient Sumerian super intelligent demon.” “There’s an ancient Sumerian god that Sam Altman and Peter Thiel are communicating with.” “They’re gonna give birth to an AI demon.” “And we have to do it before China does.” @TimJDillon
