@loganb agree, seems possible to both have more + better policing there’s a pretty thorough review of deterrence literature by @AaronChalfin swift/certain sanctions that are not necessarily severe, or targeted sentence enhancements could help pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/10…

I don’t think deterrence is incompatible with left-leaning police reform, but what I never hear from either abolitionist or pro-police groups is any discussion of reform or change that will make the justice system more functional at deterring crime.

This morning a delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Seattle shop. It was a customer who just was like, “fuck it,” and committed a crime of opportunity.

@rohindhar I looked into this in SF and PGE does this - can be pricey and usually would require opt-in by several neighbors to make a material difference.

Random question: if a property has an amazing view that’s obstructed by power lines, can you just pay to have the lines buried underground? Or is this a non-starter for some reason (too expensive, long lead time, utilities won’t do it)? (In Arizona for example)
