@pabloantonio The tech people should really drive their point home by interviewing car crash victims
English

The tech people dismissing this are completely out of touch. The NGO people can turn you into the devil, if you don't play your cards right.
The merchants of Venice and Florence understood the need for priests, artists, scholars and writers to paint a new vision of the world.

NEW: If Waymo gets its way, 2 million workers will be out of work. When Waymo gets a firm hold on a city, wages go down. Some drivers now have to work 12 hours day, 7 days a week just to get by. This isn't inevitable — but Big Tech is spending millions to make you think it is.

@garrytan @gutomartino What does your agent think about Ballmer's peak?

I don’t even know what is going on with software anymore because I’m by a pool in Kona Big Island right now and coding my personal AI voice agent by chatting with it on Telegram on my iPhone while sipping a virgin pina colada
It was loud while testing with Twilio and I wondered if we could do dynamic VAD setting and it did it 🤯

Japanese and Taiwanese chip fabs recover over 70% of their helium on-site through membrane separation and pressure swing adsorption. American fabs seldom recycle it. They never had to. Until now. The US is building a $25 billion chip fab. Every wafer inside needs helium for cooling and leak detection, purified to 99.9999%. The CHIPS Act has a helium conservation program that covers DOE research labs, but not chip fabs. It has never been funded. In 2024 the US sold its Federal Helium Reserve to a German company for $423 million.

@nvidiacc NVidia must have fired all their engineers and only have vibe coders left. The last working driver they put out is 566.36 from December

@100trillionUSD @grok If you want to go faster, pre-allocate the map since you know upfront how big it will be and parse the file character by character instead of line by line.
You might need to use something other than python, but grok should be able to write c++
English

@100trillionUSD @grok Stop using strings as keys to your maps. They are really slow compared to ints, that's why d is absurdly large
English

@PicoPaco17 @uncledoomer This is because the rules of sabre allow the attacker to continue their movement unimpeded (right of way). In a real fight this would lose immediately.
English

@DShankar Plenty of two part vr systems exist and have overcome this problem. Airlink, psvr, pcvr to name a few. I suspect they figured out the battery was too heavy too late in development. Maybe because nobody there is allowed to talk to each other.
English

I think there’s a good reason Apple Vision Pro puts a massive amount of compute on your head rather than offboard on a puck.
Latency
Moving compute far away from sensors could increase latency. Transporting high bandwidth data more than a couple inches can be hard. Not a lot of transports exist to handle that. MIPI only goes so far. So then you’re forced to add some FPGA/compute to transport over USB and whole stack might add latency. For mixed reality or eye tracking particularly, it might not meet the bar for latency.

@afoxdesign This is what baffles me the most about the AVP. Apple had the right idea offloading the battery, I’ll never understand why they didn’t offload as much of everything else as well.
English

@JustRogDigiTec Admittedly, I haven't dug deep into how VisionOS actually works.
I was under the impression that they had some declarative app model so that they could perform 2d layout in their "shell" process. Perhaps in my imagination, 2d scrolling could be somewhat isolated from apps' perf.
English

@cold_code Is 3d and 2d really ever unified? If so then longer than frame rate 2d renders will mess everything else up.
So not a unified renderer problem I don’t think. Scrolling is ideally done in another process and then normal scrolling/resize problems must be solved well.
English

3 months into #AppleVisionPro & I’m debating leaving it home during my business trip. Let’s digest that.
1. Amaze VR hasn’t released new content and doesn’t seem to work offline.
2. Disney+ isn’t adding new 3D movies.
3. Overall jank increasing in UX (scroll, flickers).

@JustRogDigiTec Yes, but with a subscription they can raise the price

bad chess move on Zuck's end, I really don't think comparing both headsets is a great idea. Especially when at that high a level, Mark knows AVP is a different product category. I would hold that energy for Google/Samsung, as they will be REALLY competing directly with meta.

@NoahRayburnXR @Lunayian Quest supports alternate app stores and sideloading. It also conforms to industry standards like OpenXR
English

@Lunayian I agree with a lot of what he says… but why does he think meta is the more open of the two? Anybody can get an app on the vision pro store, not even close to true on quest.
Maybe I misunderstand what that specifically means though.
English

@AndreaCopellino @Lunayian Hand segmentation is much easier, you can basically do it with just depth
English

@Lunayian how is it possible that while the hand occlusion is so precise, it can't track it well at all? if anything it should be the opposite judging by the quest
...also they support direct touch as an input method for visionOS
