@natehale @colour_dan And, then, he was grounded (no pun intended) for the rest of the war.

@natehale Incredibly brave kids! Similarly, I believe if you work back to the start of his training, Glover was also 14. I wonder how many others there were.

These stories are simply amazing; the RAF had at least two underage pilots in bomber command; Sgt Tom Dobney, who lied about his age, joined the RAF at 14, earned his wings as a pilot at 15 and flew at least three operational mission in Whitley medium bombers before his father learned where his “missing” son had gone and alerted the RAF: amp.theguardian.com/news/2001/apr/…

Four years in the writing. A celebration of the wartime lives, loves, & deaths of forty young men, compiled from their letters to & from their boarding housemaster, as well as their diaries, memoirs, & family archives. It has been humbling & an honour to tell their stories.

Major Louis T. Houck of 365th FG (Hell Hawks) / 387 FS, sits on the wing of his P-47D-15-RE "The Screamin' Weamie", adorning his trademark horned flight cap. Houck is likely joined by his ground crew, and two other unidentified pilots, on the ground at RAF Gosfield in early 1944.

Sorry I've not been around to delight you with enhanced photography this week, but I've been mostly confined to my bed for the last 4 days. And I think I've slept 90 hours of that! I've had a pretty major relapse of long-term health issues and haven't been able to work on my computer. But do please bear with me, I'll be back online soon, I am sure. See you soon xxx ♥️
