For your #EarthDay reading, my article in @envhistcom on Charlton Heston's apocalypse trilogy & the rise of eco-fascist catastrophism. There may be the possibility of life in capitalist ruins, but there is also the possibility of capital in life's ruins. enviro-history.com/heston

It's standard on Earth Day for media outlets to publish lists of environmental songs. These include great standards, such as John Prine's "Paradise"(RIP). But if you're looking to dig deeper check out this list and the accompanying essays. #envhist #envhum enviro-history.com/planet-rock

will try to devote time to my manuscript after transitioning my classes online Listening to a bunch of music is the thing I look forward to the most in my social distancing. I wonder if I can scratch that writing about something music-related itch?

@amboseliacacia I've come across this too in a translation of Marco Polo iirc, and it threw me at first. I think corn in this context doesn't mean maize, but other sort of cereal like wheat.

"Krause often ends his talks by reminding us that soundscapes give us a means to experience nature that is more than just visual observation, and one that is vital to our efforts to preserve biodiversity and natural physical and acoustic spaces." - @UntilDarwin

And both call upon us to *listen* more. "Rather than getting past the trouble with wilderness, we need to learn to stay with it. To do so will require many things but one may be to listen for the bells that ring out from the earth." - @KDPluymers

These two new essays by @KDPluymers and @UntilDarwin are about very different musicians -- Bernie Krause and teh Handsome Family -- but they also have some remarkable similar themes relating to the wild, #wilderness, history, and the #Anthropocene. Here are some quotes:
