"I see organizing as both pragmatic & transformative. Our contract will make living & working at ISU more sustainable & more human. But also, organizing together changes our sense of what is possible. How will we learn to have power in the world if we cannot build it locally, in our workplaces? How will we learn to have solidarity across difference, & to value others in & for themselves, if we cannot do it locally, with people we know?" -- my comrade Camille Cole in @jacobin.

If you read the New York Times, it might seem like the crisis of higher education is primarily a crisis of elite private institutions. But the real crises — and the real opportunities for change — are in the public sector. jacobin.com/2025/03/illino…

@dbessner My preference is to go to Atlantic City. It gets you property and entertainment (via the casino and Miss America) and ties both to narratives of American decline and rebirth. It also allows for a feeling of distance from NYC into “real America”

@Niamh_NicGhabh GRMA. Very kind of you to listen. I’m glad that it’s been productive to think with and I’m so grateful to the conference for indulging a keynote that tried to set early modern Ireland into a much broader context

New book from my friend @RobertFitz74, coming soon with @UNC_Press. As a punk fan and Reagan hater, this book is tailor-made for me--and I assume I am not alone.

Her books have been so important to how my comrades and I organized our union and how we’ve approached bargaining our first contract. The world will be poorer in her absence but I firmly believe that her words will continue to ignite fires as workers fight for justice.

I've just posted some important personal and professional news about my health crisis on my website.janemcalevey.com please read and share with relevant folks in our struggle for justice. My best to you all--
