So, thats me done posting on twitter. The recent upsurge of hate, bile, fascism, racism, trans and homophobia has turned this place into a cess pit. Musk has done nothing to protect it, quite the reverse. So I'm out. See you over in threads and mastodon!

@Martininc1 @i_iratus I think what you mean is rich, absentee landlords will have to sell land because of this policy. Good. The rich only bought it to avoid tax. Sell it to actual farmers who care about the actual land, rather than hoarding it to avoid paying their share.

@i_iratus A farm makes less than 1% return on investment each year in terms of Casflow. So he probably makes 1.5 million which has to pay for new machinery which then gets taxed etc. it is inevitable that farmers will have to sell land because of this policy.

@DaveSW40 @i_iratus The average farm isn't worth £200m, so your numbers don't come even close to adding up either. The average farm is worth around £2m and would incur a tax bill of zero if the deceased was married. Plus why the hell should farmers escape IHT which everyone else has to pay?

@i_iratus So the average farm turnover was £86k last year...even if you times it by ten for a large farm, where do you think the farmer should find the other 3m from? It's a genuine question as your numbers don't even come close to adding up, again

@BuckCllr @i_iratus Its been proven already that only a small minority of farms will pay IHT, and it will not affect food prices. Stop making stuff up to feather the nests of your rich buddies.

@i_iratus How much would you like your food costs to rise to pay for this tax bill? Someone ALWAYS PAYS, but not necessarily who you think it might be?

@Rod__Mason @i_iratus Firstly, agricultural land is worth about £12,000 per acre *for agricultural purposes* so his estate could sell it to smaller farmer, and secondly why isn't it set up as a business which would not incur IHT? £200m of land is about 16,000 acres.

@i_iratus Don’t be ridiculous! The whole point is that return on assets on farms is tiny. What you suggest is absolutely impossible, & shows a total lack of understanding of business & the countryside. The land’s only that valuable if it’s sold to be used for something that’s not farming.

@wrightwingman @marcorubio In Geneva, on 21st Jan 2021, Sergei Lavrov, Russian foreign minister said: "You are claiming that Russia is planning to attack Ukraine. We have repeatedly made it clear that this is not the case." One month later, Russia attacked Ukraine. Source: Russian Foreign Affairs dept.

Just making things up. No one has made any threats about cutting Ukraine off from Starlink And say thank you because without Starlink Ukraine would have lost this war long ago and Russians would be on the border with Poland right now
Radosław Sikorski 🇵🇱🇪🇺@sikorskiradek

Starlinks for Ukraine are paid for by the Polish Digitization Ministry at the cost of about $50 million per year. The ethics of threatening the victim of aggression apart, if SpaceX proves to be an unreliable provider we will be forced to look for other suppliers.

BREAK: Absolutely horrific news for iPhone users in the UK. Apple is removing its highest level data security tool from customers in the UK, after the government demanded access to user data. This is a move that Apple has never made before in any market.

No UK customer data stored on iCloud will be encrypted, making it all accessible by Apple, the Government, and - frankly - the most horrific hackers you can possibly imagine. Imagine the blackmail, extortion, and identity theft the government is now bringing on its own citizens.

@RoryStewartUK America has its own interests separate from Ukraine, why would Ukraine be grafted onto every U.S. meeting with Russia? Did you consult the Kurds in Rojava before you went to Syria to do PR for its al- Qaeda president, by the way?

@philthemod67 @paullewismoney Half our food comes from overseas, largely the EU. As has been explained ad nauseam, only a small minority of wealthy farmers are impacted by the tax rule, which still gives farmers estates a 50% tax break and 20x longer to pay than the rest of us. You're being played.

Are farmers allowed to use duty free red diesel when driving to and from these protests or do the fill up at the local garage first? Do these journeys count as ‘purposes relating to agriculture’, perhaps ‘events which provide information and education that benefit agriculture’ bit.ly/41d6i58

Until 2016, the UK was a normal, prosperous, functioning, happy country. Then this lot destroyed everything, while handing what money we had left to donors and fraudsters. The people are now paying the price.

@Angry_Staffer If it's too expensive because it's imported then Americans start producing the goods. That creates more jobs. BTW don't forget this is also about securing our borders and beefing up our National security.

This is legitimately the most pointless trade war in history. Economics 101 for the MAGA crowd who doesn’t seem to get it. We are a net importer. That means we BUY more shit than we sell. Import tariffs mean that US COMPANIES PAY MORE TO BUY GOODS. The money goes to US customs. When US companies pay more to buy goods, they sell them to US consumers (that’s you, reading this post) for more money in order to maintain their profit margins. Guess which countries we buy the most shit from? Canada, Mexico, and China — the countries he just tariffed for absolutely no reason.
