I am occasionally asked if I know anime because I have a finger on the pulse of pop culture but like… the anime I watched was in the 90s, like Dragon Ball Z and Cowboy Bebop. I have no idea what people love today. I hear Frieren is popular

Women basically need job protection the way vets have when having children for exactly this reason if we really care about maximizing the amount of kids couples have.
Jobs are just too lucrative to miss out on the money.
This is obscenely inefficient for businesses.

let us acknowledge that 1) women work now and that bell isn't going to be unrung, but also 2) being a dual working parent family with small kids is an extremely stressful and unpleasant lifestyle, and a major barrier to people having >2 kids. I don't know what the solution is. Surely it has to involve normalizing women taking extended breaks from the workforce during the small kid years. I would have loved to do that but was frankly terrified of never getting another job, and I simply don't have the temperament to be a long term SAHM.

I've always thought alignment was probably not going to be an issue, because the more intelligent a being is, the bigger it's sense of self becomes.
The more intelligent you are, the more connections you see between everything and the bigger "you" become.

I was just reading about how kids have a terrible memory, for events at least before the age of five, they mostly remember events their parents point out to them, but not much else.
Having a preference memory makes me wonder what kinds of things they do remember.

This is silly.
Some teachers are too prone to trumpeting their views, but you can't avoid opinions.
I teach a class on genocide. Students ask me if I think Gaza was a genocide. Should I not answer? What if they ask if the Holocaust was a genocide? Should I say, "Well, different people have different opinions on the Holocaust, and it's not my place to offer my opinion"? Of course not!
In reality land, I tell my students that the Holocaust was a genocide. (We've already spent time discussing in abstract what does and does not count as genocide.) On Gaza, I say it's my opinion that it wasn't, but many experts disagree, and it's reasonable to debate. And then we debate!
I lean towards keeping my opinions to myself, but I talk about politics and history, which often involve interpretation and opinion. I always make it clear that when I offer an opinion, students are very free to disagree with me!
I love debate, and I never want any of my students to feel they can't offer their own take on the world.
