IMO - as an amateur athlete you are nailing it if you are improving in sport, but also thriving in health, work and life performance.

@Timboreed @Brady_H It makes sense as the shoe design is an effective trampoline. So high force down into grounds amplifies propulsive effect. Endorses your thought Tim

My argument against super shoes from the start is that the benefit gained is not equal. There are responders and ‘far-less responders. From my own testing, I’ve found bounding long legged gazelles getting up to 6% advantage over standard trainer while shorter stride high cadence runners less than 2.5%

I have a theory. I think Connor Mantz is a “super responder” to super shoes. Just listen to how his feet strike the ground. He’s putting so much force into each foot strike, especially at his body weight. The energy return he gets from carbon-plated shoes has to be insane.

@Alan_Couzens I might replace both of those words with strength Alan. The most undervalued when it comes to health and endurance performance (appreciate it may not support your point)

Whether your chief goal is basic health or the highest levels of endurance performance... You're likely overvaluing the cardiovascular and undervaluing the metabolic.

@webetho @coachjorgem It does yes, and also cresting with just a little input to gather speed over the top (conversely through the bottom of rollers also). It is an ART to master but provides huge yields when done well

@purplepatch @coachjorgem Does that include reducing power (compared to average power over the bike leg) on the downhills and increasing power on the uphills to reduce the energy spent on overcoming aerodynamic drag?

@coachjorgem I forgot the MOST important thing - well done to you and your athlete. Terrific accomplishment. And development. Wow.

@coachjorgem we are agreeing on all fronts. A refined lens: I am not just talking about pacing, I am focusing on any given piece of road - how you get best speed return over rolling terrain. Most focus only on power - but not speed return.

@jonhagedornmd @scottcarlinpt and manage when you hit the tougher sessions - integrated into life (and how body is primed to adapt to the hard work). Good stuff.

@scottcarlinpt Been reading @purplepatch’s book and he would agree. Consistency is key. Also, fewer weekly high quality, focused workouts beats high number low quality, unfocused workouts. Show up with a plan and be intentional. Quality over quantity.

Consistent B+ workouts beat inconsistent A+ workouts. Just keep showing up. Long-term consistency is the name of the game.

@Alan_Couzens Alan: I have to say that’s one viewpoint that is a little idealistic and not quite reality for most professionals working (especially with families). In my experience it tends to not mesh with reality and fluctuating demands

8 hours of sleep 8 hours of work Leaves you 8hrs to play around with. Fitting in 2-3hrs of movement within that 8 shouldn't be that hard.
