At YouTube, we want to make it easier for parents to help their kids find great videos in safer experiences built just for them. We're launching a way to easily switch to YouTube Kids using the YouTube app on smart TVs, streaming devices & game consoles. support.google.com/youtubekids/th…

The craziest thing just happened at dinner. I’m at a ramen shop owned by Thai people in Oakland dressed as power rangers, when a woman comes rushing in saying she wasn’t safe—and a man came running in after her and puts her in a chokehold.

@mattcasey Every time I hear about this I always think of Soma from Brave New World.

Whenever I tell someone my favorite econ class in school was corporate finance I always get crazy looks. This stuff is just so cool. Starbucks finances have always been a very interesting case study.

There's a saying in Fintech: You either die a consumer goods company, or live long enough to see yourself enter financial services. One company has managed to do both. Let me tell you why Starbucks is one of the most successful banks in the U.S.:

@aj_ Very cool. Only thing I’d say it got wrong was “goal”, since that part feels more like the status.

Subtle things like “figuring out” -> “figure out” which seem minor on the surface are also impressive in this context

@mattcasey Teaching my daughter how to read has made me so angry at the creators of this stupid language.

what's your favorite pre-2010 sci-fi book that isn't from a very famous author (not Le Guin, Asimov, Bradbury, etc)?

@mattcasey If you don’t have a reservation, they invite you to come in to watch other people eat but then you have to leave without ever being seated.

Tired: women shouldn't code Wired: no one should code. We have enough code. Delete it all and set humanity free.

In light of the draft of a leaked majority Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade, I want to call your attention to the people that would be impacted most by the end of legalized abortion across the United States. 🧵:

@Carnage4Life I feel like the counter balance to not having enough time is delegation and empowerment. So if I find myself without enough the, I need to help one of my leads grow to take on more.

@joey_debruin I agree with your broader point, but I do want to point out here that the legal and compliance aspects is what makes these existing systems feel "old" and "physical". The only solution is the compliance mechanisms themselves modernizing, not blockchain technology.

When you start a company, you realize how "old" and physical our existing systems are - creating and distributing equity, viewing your cap table, etc. Tokens would and will make it so much better. But there's also a huge legal/infrastructure/tooling ecosystem built around that.

In the long run, tokens will replace equity across every kind of organization, basically because digital > physical. The problem with starting there in the short term (eg mapping tokens onto traditional org structures) is it means competing at every other layer of the stack.

@Carnage4Life @FaustAround Not only did he miss the point, it’s such a silly take. I would be shocked if the product teams don’t have access to geographic data in aggregate or the ability to target features at a country level.

@jaberwaki @tcmg Yeah on one hand the niche recommendations are what make YT so unique and worth watching but I agree we need to figure how to better tackle personalization in an inherently shared space.

How many people watch YouTube on their TV's? Because of the recommendation algorithms and how niche YT content can be, it sort of reveals deeper interests while browsing than Netflix. Sharing something that's normally cultivated in private 🤔
