Sometimes I use my iPhone, maybe change a setting, and I think back to my very first iPhone, the 3G and I remember how few settings there were, so few apps, so simple yet complete it was and I just think it's truly incredible how much this device has matured over 15 years

My virtual conference tech “Adventure” powered the @GooglePlay Indie Games Festival again this year. The team sent me quite possibly the biggest pack of swag I’ve ever received! These boxes go to every winner of the festival so it’s a very kind gift 🎁 👀

Heading to San Fran for the first time in years. Just realised on the way to the airport I have no US adaptors or whatever. Goddamn amateur hour over here.

@JohnMu Yah, if you don't include the "ctrl" in the shortcut I mentioned, it'll go to your desktop by default. I change that to a separate screenshots folder though, and keep that in my dock as a fan-style expander so it's sorted by most recent

Just showed someone the "Ctrl + Shift + Command + 4" on Mac shortcut. Captures a screenshot with your cursor but doesn't save it as a file – instead it's instantly puts on your clipboard as an image. It blew their mind. What Mac shortcuts do you use that are secretly awesome? 💻

@ataulm Oh, bizarre. I think I prefer doing it in one shortcut but ok!

@tcmg Same, but you can defer the "ctrl" bit for the rectangle drawing part which makes it easier to use :D

@gmiller A beautiful landscape. Everyone is going about their business and focused on their own world. No one notices Icarus drowning in the ocean in the corner.

Imagine you have to look at one painting for one solid hour, in person, with no distractions. What painting would you pick? (Share images please)

Huh. There's just one thing I miss about the touch bar, the volume button itself indicated whether sound was muted or not. Didn't realise I'd gotten used to that one nicety

@Paul_Kinlan Yup. It's 120hz and on by default. Go to "Displays" and try setting it to 60hz. You'll definitely notice the diff...

Pro motion on M1 Macbook Pro feels more impactful than on iPhones or iPads to me. Perhaps because iOS has always been quite smooth so the jump/difference for macOS feels more clear? And the screens are bigger

@simonjoslin Normally Apple focuses on markets "for everyone" with a huge potential user base and usually "personal computing". Even their pro devices (Mac Pro, Display XDR) can still be justified by the non-professional rich end of the market. Consoles are close but don't align perfectly.

most M1 chips outpace the PS5 and XSX right… apple have the software and developer support, and the new M1 ipad air shows they can almost be cost competitive… so why haven’t they gone into consoles? bc they don’t have a clear innovation to add? or it ain’t big enough?

@bgalbs So I think those two factors are probably big parts of what you’re feeling. And I have the same feeling a lot of the time too. During the beginning of the pandemic I also tried to watch older movies which I’d heard good things about but never found the time to watch.

@bgalbs It is engaging but compared to the pacing of older movies, it’s like you’re constantly eating snacks instead of savouring a good meal. Even the original Iron Man felt like it was from a different generation of films than the newest Marvel movies.

I love movies and TV, despite spending a few years as “that guy” without a TV. But lately, it’s harder for me to enjoy shows. I feel pressure to optimize the rare viewing time I get, and I find myself skimming through slow points and quitting shows fast.

Several examples are given of bugs popping up in Safari which aren't addressed for months. Or issues that have been left untouched for 4+ years. Would be fascinating to see a comparison of how long it takes similar bugs to be fixed in the native side of iOS

A game engine developer's take on Safari and Apple's support for not just web game developers but web app developers as well. Lots of developers are submitting thoughts on the UK's study into Apple's web support and prioritisation of native app technologies.
Ashley Gullen@AshleyGullen

My submission to the CMA has now been published. In it I describe in detail how Apple act negligently in developing Safari and why the CMA should require competing browsers to be allowed. Read it here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6229ae53…
