Eight libraries in #Hampshire will close fo good putting 50 jobs at risk. The county council approving plans last night it says will save £1.8 million by closing libraries including #Lyndhurst, #Fairoak, #LeeOnTheSolent and #Horndean.

@hantsconnect @GavinWilliamson central government will need to dig deep to support school children of Hampshire. They are going to be needing additional support after this devastating decision by @hantsconnect. £60,000 spent on a flawed consultation for them then to ignore it's constituents.

@MariaG_Zaccaro So disappointed that this was not given. #savehampshirelibraries. The entire process has been a waste of £60,000 as they have just not listened to peoples views or opinions. Chineham library was saved after wrong figures were highlighted by @FriendsChineham.

Cllr Jonathan Glenn asked Cllr Woodward to delay the closure of Odiham library and create a working party to find another solution or, if this option is not possible, to work with the community to find a solution for the building.

@CllrKeithHouse What a waste of £60,000. @FriendsChineham raised questions regarding data used in the consultation and won, this is why Chineham was saved as it should never have been included. The whole process was a shame! Is there a right to appeal? #savehampshirelibraries

A depressing day for Hampshire libraries. Strong arguments from all over the county against defunding 12 libraries and cuts of up to 39% in hours at places like Hedge End. All ignored as cuts imposed by Conservative Cabinet Member.

There is 1 book for each pupil and that normally has to last two weeks. #savehampshirelibraries

So they don’t need to take 14 books home every day. And @hantslibraries schools service is the best. So don’t worry about the larger bag.

HCC are still threatening further cuts on top of the 8 library closures and 4 volunteer run libraries where funding will be withdrawn.

Why @FarehamWoodward appears to think that ability to digitally download a book is OK for everyone in society. We spend all day at computers and physical books give us a break from this. #savehampshire libraries
