In 2022, Opal created the Screen Time category by being the first app to build on Apple’s Screen Time API. The category is still tiny compared to the need. Billions of people are struggling with attention, only a few million are using any screen-time app. This is the beginning. If you’re building here: don’t chase competitors. Chase truth. Build what you want to exist in the world. You'll have more success that way. That’s the only real moat.

This is my year in review: PERSONAL ✓ Lost 26Kg through proper nutrition and weightlifting (@levelsio levels of training 😜) ✓ Left @redbull to pursue personal projects after 3 years ✓ Freelanced for a few cool companies including Opal with the wonderful @treeba ✓ Took a 6-months break from 𝕏 and now the algorithm is all messed up 🫠 BUSINESS ✰ Launched my skincare brand @moumoujus after 3 years of formulations ✰ Hired a PR team for @moumoujus and got featured on 5 publications ✰ Had the product stocked in 4 retailers within the first month. ✰ Started working on an eye serum, mega complex formula ✰ Had 200 pre-sales for the eye serum thanks to an influencer who picked it up on IG. 2026 ❂ Lose the final 10Kg to reach my optimal weight. ❂ Weight training at least 4 days a week ❂ Expand my @moumoujus skincare line with 2 more products (eye serum and cleanser) ❂ Get EU-approved to launch @moumoujus in the EU (thanks Brexit for doubling my work). ❂ Get personally featured in a large publication. ❂ Close deal with Condé Nast for GQ/Tatler/Vogue features ❂ Post more behind the scenes on TikTok

I did a thing. Today is my last day as a full-time employee. After working as a principal designer for large corporations, I left my six-figure salary job to start my skincare brand. It's a passion project that started almost two years ago, using my evenings and weekends studying and researching everything I could find about cosmetics formulation and skin chemistry. My journey started with a personal motivation: I wanted to help my mum manage her psoriasis. I explored various options to create products that didn't contain harsh ingredients, fragrances, or preservatives that could worsen her flare-ups. Oh, and it all started in my kitchen: mixing over 50 formulations, performing lab tests, damaging the skin on my face more than once (learning the hard way, literally), looking through thousands of ingredients, and begging manufacturers to let me try their actives free of charge. As I've been self-funding this project from the start, I put all the money towards the formula, leaving nothing else for the website, packaging and social media marketing, so I've had to do all of that by myself. I've recorded a brief video with the help of a friend to tell my story to the world.

Apple Design Award Finalist 2025 🏆

Too many understand quality as polish. It's not the same thing. If build something good, even if it’s a bit rough. That’s great. But don’t fall into the mindset of “just ship it.” When “just ship it” is the default, you stop asking if this is actually good for users. You move on too fast and create mess for the users. The potential good experience gets lost in all that mess. Quality is a muscle. You try to make things good at every step. You keep asking if this is better for the user and you keep improving it. That works a lot better for retention than just shipping something and moving on. Quality is a goal, and it's a way to show you care about the users. "Just ship it" is you pushing your priorities over the customers priorities. Like in Jony's words, you not giving a shit about the users or their experience, you're giving shit about your needs of making progress. It's another version of shipping your org chart.

I am enormously sad that nobody has been able to capture the spiritual aspect of creating in tech the way that Steve Jobs and Jony Ive do, because the next generation really can’t feel it that way I did coming into tech Must watch
